Morning all!
Well, I'm not sure what to say about the higher numbers Miss Aurora has been throwing out at me these past few days. Yesterday morning I saw her go to the litter box and I watched her and she only squeezed out two small balls of poop. She seemed fine otherwise, wanted to play wand toy and was her normal self thru the day. This morning was her highest AMPS ever - after she ate breakfast, I shot the .25 and then she went to the basement litter box and I watched her and she had 2 really nice big poops. I really hope that was all it was that was driving her numbers up. I had suspected her left ear was bothering her on Wed I think it was so I started her on the tresederm 2x per day for her left ear ( she has a history of repeated ear infections, always has dirty ears that I try to gently clean ) If anyone has any good tips on preventing ear infections, I'd love some tips for maybe something simple I can do daily to prevent.

So, I guess we'll see how she's looking later on today. I have some morning and afternoon errands I have to do so I'll be in and out all day.

Have a good day everyone!

It's very strange that she's showing yellow after being solid blue/green for about 3 weeks. And it came on pretty quickly although looking back she was in mid-range blues mid cycle instead of the lovely greens.
Has the constipation issue been for the last 3 or 4 days? Maybe add some pumpkin (make sure its not pie filling) or miralax to her food?
The tresederm....is that an antibiotic?

Yes, tresederm is liquid antibiotic ear drops
Well, she pooped out 2 big logs so I don't think she's constipated anymore. She started to squat and they passed easily. I'm in my office and she just came here to have a drink of water so she's looking good so far.

The ears and constipation could be playing havoc with her numbers.

The last ear infection Forrest, Civvie, had, he was put on Thesederm also. His vet told me once a week to take equal amount of water and white vinegar in a small bowl, and with a cotton ball dipped into into and squeeze out the excess and wipe all the gunk out of the folds of the ear to help prevent another ear infection. I have to admit, I did it faithfully for a few months and just recently did it again as he had a gunky ear again and was scratching at it.

Even if she was dropping these higher numbers still aren't great. I'll do what I can today I have a ton of errands today

I agree they are not.

I'm hoping that now she's pooped she'll level out. But if she doesn't it would just be nice to be sure that she is not diving low later in the cycle and triggering a little bounce.
If she doesn't level out and you don't catch any green midcycle she may need a dosecrease, but I would want to be sure that she is not up to shenanigans before doing that.
(it's the cautious bean in me speaking)

Ok 5.25 she's coming down still now she's at 136 seems very relaxed and content she's been laying in her cardboard fish scratcher all morning looks very very happy

good job getting those tests in Nicole.
Nice to see here head down into blue, looks like she's heading up with the +9, if you don't catch green tonight, I would think about taking her up to 0.5u. It looks like she has been trending up the last three days.
Seems to coincide with the ear drops, but not sure how that would impact her BG.

It would be good to get some other thoughts on the dose.

Thanks! I am really puzzled by this jump in numbers. One would think IF she had an ear infection that with the medicated ear drops now she would be feeling better and we'd be seeing lower numbers....

Me too, sometimes they can just loose regulation for one reason or another. It's not unusual to have to fiddle with the dose.

I'm sure someone has already asked, but are her teeth ok? Dental issues, can be a prime culprit for kitties loosing their mojo.

Well the vet said she has calculus on them but that she didn't need a dental for about a year
Calculus causing gum inflammation and inflammation can impact the BG's in a negative way. I don't understand why the vet would say she doesn't need a dental for a year Plus, under the calculus could be a absorption lesion ( the equivalent to human decay ) and that can be painful.

If it were me, I'd think about a dental cleaning.

Tresaderm has Dexamethasone in it, which is a corticosteroid. Steroids can impact the BG. You might want to post a general question about the use of Tresaderm on the Feline Health forum.

PMPS 167 do I hold the .25 or increase to .5? I'm not home during the day this coming week to monitor at all so I'm always scared to increase.

Oh I didn't know that....very good tip thanks Wendy!

Ok I will think about it. I just examined her teeth myself and they look pretty good. I think Wendy might have a good point about the tresaderm

If you edit your title to add the question mark prefix, more members will see you have a question. I'm to new to this to know the answer to your question.

If it is raising her BGs, you could raise the dose until you go off of it.
Yeah but what happens if I increase her tomorrow morning to .5 and then I'm at work all day? I leave at 630am and I won't be home until about 415pm to check her again.

Really confused about the tresederm is it bad to cintinue using it since steroids and diabetes aren't a good mix? Do I chance a dose crease tomorrow to .5 even though I'm not home to monitor?

165 @ +3.25
If one of the pros can advise what I should do tomorrow am I'd like to prepare since there aren't many people online early in the morning when I'm going to be shooting. Do I increase to .5 even though I will be gone all day and won't be back until evening to test again?

Tresaderm has dexamethasone in it... a steroid. It could be/probably is the reason for the higher BG numbers. Talk to your vet about it.

ETA: Oops! I see Wendy mentioned the same. Talk to your vet. If your vet feels it's necessary, than work the insulin around the ear drops.
