Zeke's morning preshot #'s I'm seeing are lower then the evening ones.

Is it normal for them to be like that? Last night and tonight he was at 381 and 395, this morning he was 263, and the peak today was 69. I was looking at reducing him from 2.5u to 2u tonight, because I'm worried about dropping him too low, but now I don't know. :(

Okies, thank you. :) I can see how people can become a nervous wreck about all this! With my mom having had a diabetic dog, and over half my aunts and uncles being diabetic, it wasn't as much of a big deal to me. I was just thrilled that it wasn't something worse because of how quickly he dropped weight! :)

Btw, what all does the food part mean on your signature?

Oh :p. LC = Low Carb, MC = Medium Carb, YA = Young Again Zero

Ah Ok. Our vet told us to regulate to his food (find ones that he really loves and go from there) since we have been having a time the last couple weeks to get him to eat. I am also going to look into leaving food out since he acts like he is wanting to graze instead of just sit and eat his meal. I am going to print out the food list for friskies to take with us so I am not picking out ones too high in carbs like the Primes etc.

Most kitties tend to lean towards grazing versus designated meal times and eat all of it in once sitting. Another reason why the popular Vet idea of 2x daily feeding doesn't work for many kitties. :)

I have been looking through the site links on feeding etc, but not really finding much on grazing on wet foods. I did find a tip of sprinkling grated parmesan cheese to help encourage eating which going to try at dinner tonight, but not finding much on the grazing part. I definitely do not want to go back to any dry for grazing after all I have read and Mr. Zeke already has history of urinary tract issues (about 2 years ago, 2 episodes within a month). With 3 cats, what is the best way for doing grazing with wet? One is the average size kitty, maybe 10 pounds and full of energy, the other is about 20 pounds (definitely overweight!), then of course our Mr Zeke at 12 pounds but could go up a little since he is a larger cat (stands almost 3 inches above the little one).

Automatic timed feeder for wet food. Or freeze portions that thaw out later in the day is what I do when I won't be home to give fresh :)

How long to leave it out? My daughter and I are home all day since she is home school and I work from home, so we can put out fresh often.

Do u have just the one kitty, or others also? We have 2 others so trying to figure out what would be best. Maybe slipping a 3rd meal in? If I free feed, through the night wouldn't leave as much out since I wouldn't be able to take it away 2 hours before amps. Could keep plenty out during the day though so I would know he is getting enough. Our fat boy doesn't like to jump so he only jumps to where we kept feed (because of dog) when he is really hungry lol.

His pmps was great tonight! 124! I think he actually ate a full can too :) He ate the biggest part of his and then ate part of one of the others when he came out of the room.

Please test before you give the snack. You might be where I am right now. Usually for newer members, we recommend not shooting when BG is <200

Oh! Then I will go ahead and test him now. Was going to give him a few minutes because he wasn't wanting his snack, but not waiting.

He is at 147 so heading up some. Gave him about 2 tablespoons of chicken and a few temptations treats for the high carbs. (normally only give him chicken for treat and snack, not these anymore)

I'm still learning so glad u said something. Since the temptations are high carbs that should help keep him up there and my daughter is going to see how he is doing in a little bit and give him another bite of chicken and let me know if he starts acting "off" so I can test him again.

Thank you again! Is there any particular thread that goes over dosing etc? Like # range for no dose, 1/2 dose etc?

Typically just while you are still learning and gathering data, we say don't dose if PS is <200. As we see how Zeke reacts, the threshold for No Shot can be lowered. We like to play safe :)

Yes definitely. We also got to experience this morning why not to hit the vein when pricking his ear. Luckily we just bought some kwik stop when we were at the vet yesterday to stop the bleeding. Will be very glad when he is more used to it and won't try to move so much I'm trying to pick his ear.

My kitty is like that. Low in the am, higher in the pm. :)
