Skipped shot last night + Reduced AM dose = Bouncing

Not concerned. Was expected.

What wasn't expected was Rudy acting like a crazy man all morning - yelling, racing, leaping, messing with the civvies. He even tried to break into the auto feeder. (He ate breakfast and had food available too.) Thank goodness he went to sleep after his +4 check and snack. He was driving me nuts.

Here's his attempted break in...

Wow. Already down to 256. I won't be surprised if you have a blue or even a high green at PMPS!!

Rudy's antics this morning reminds me of Rex being crazy one day and picking on other civvies. :)

I got a question for you. I see the kind of auto feeder you have .. how does that work if you have other civvies?? I'm still trying to solve my problem of how to do an auto feeder for all 4 cats if I'm gone an evening or a weekend.

He musta heard everyone. 77 at +9. Can't say I was expecting that. :D

For the feeder - This one has two big compartments that easily hold a 5.5 ounce can each. I load a can of FF into each. None of them eats a whole can at once, so they take turns grazing after it opens. I've only used it a couple of times, but it works pretty well.

Holy cow! I didn't think it would be 77 at +9... I thought it would be at PMPS!

So that is the Petsafe 2? Don't your cats fight over who gets to eat first? Rex and Keena are the piggies ... and the biggest of the 4.

ETA: I looked at your SS and you have 77 in the +10 slot.

Nope. They don't fight over food. And even though Rudy can be a bit of a hog - there's usually food left in the feeder, so the girls can still eat if they're hungry. And it is a PetSafe. Must be the 2 since it has 2 slots.

Does he take yet another reduction tonight since he fell below 90 again? (This is assuming he's above 90 at shot time in a few hours.)

SLGS does say to take an immediate reduction for a number under 90. Rudy's on a bit of a mission. You may find you will have to go back up because this was so close to the last reduction, or not. ;) What makes it complicated is that he got to green in spite of the skip last night.

I know. He just took a reduction this morning after the skip and he's green now. And he might skip again if he's under 90 at pmps. He's definitely keeping me on my toes. This cat is gonna drive me to drink...

I'd go with the reduction due to how fast he is clearing bounces. He was only on 3.25 for 3 cycles, a skip last night and back to greens! He is on a mission for sure.

Holy smokes!!! PMBG was 54. No shot for him again tonight. :D

I gave him a spoon of MC as an appetizer. He's on to his main course of LC now. He will be skipping dessert. :D

He's come a long way!!! I think back to when you first posted and I know you never thought you'd be here earning reductions and getting into better numbers! It makes me so happy for you! :bighug:

I was a raving lunatic and ready to throw in the towel more than once over the last 2 months. I really can't believe how far he's come. :joyful:

Had I not found this forum - I'd still be listening to my vet and giving him the wrong dose with token increases. We owe any success we have to members on here who gave great advice and listened to me b**** and moan. :cat:

We can all relate to everything you just said. :)

You are very lucky that you have kitties who are civil. Not in my house. I had to have a feeder per cat ( luckily, I only have two) and even then, Bubba who is younger and quicker has been known to eat his and his brother's.

If I put out just one bowl (like when I consolidate the breakfast and dinner dishes) - one will eat while another waits to go. They're a pretty well behaved herd.

It's great to see Rudy doing so well. :D

Thank you. :D

I forgot to ask - should I test him or let it ride for tonight? (I tested twice last night because I can't help myself.) If I test him and he's over a certain number - should I feed and shoot?

I don't think you need to shoot tonight. Skipping should drain the depot and you'll know for sure he wanted the reduction. I'd still get a couple of tests in tonight since he slid down all day just to be safe.

Thank you. :D

I am a test-a -holic too. Because there was no shot, he should go up after eating but, then because he is a cat...... he could decide to go lower and then you would steer him up. Even though the higher depot is only 3 cycles, we can't trust Rudy right how because he is on a mission. So, guess what I am saying is get a +2 and go from there.

I agree with this. On 5/8, I did a NS and Rex was in the 40's the entire cycle. The depot was in play still.

I just checked him. Almost 3 hours since his usual shot time and he's at 307. Dammit. What do I do?

That's a big old bounce and a bit usual for Rudy. If you were to shoot now you'd be 3 hours off your regular shot time. Can you be that far off ?

Test again to make sure it wasn't a wonky number.

Retest just now was 287. I can be off by 3 hours and be ok. I can back him up by 30 minutes over a few days until I get him back to his normal time. Would his sugar come down to normal on its own overnight? I'm guessing no.

(I knew I shouldn't have checked him.)

Your guess is as good as mine. He is certainly racing down the ladder and this number now is uncharacteristic for him. If you can recover your schedule without a lot of stress ( remember the next shot is 12 hours from now) then you could go ahead and shoot him late.

Can you monitor tonight for how ever long you need too? If so, even though we thought he was done with shooting through the bounce, maybe tonight could be the exception and then tomorrow give the reduction. It's your call.

I can monitor. I just don't know what to do. I'm mad that I checked. And I'm even more mad that he was at 300 within 3 hours of his skip. I'll decide in the next few minutes and post my final decision.

It could be the multiple NS are starting to catch up. I know what you mean, sometimes ignorance is bliss. But if you can catch up easily and don't want him to get to far out, you could shoot.

Jen, I need to sign off and help get my mom ready for bed. I don't know if I'll be able to get back on board tonight. So, if you have any issues post for help.
I'm gonna shoot if he's still over 250. Take the reduction to 2.75 now or in the morning?
I think if he's 250 and under take the reduction now.

We just crossed posted. Want to make sure you saw my above post. I think I would play it safe and give the reduction no matter what his number is. I don't trust him.

Just checked before I signed off and saw that you held the dose. Just be vigilant as I know you will be. It could go either way with shooting through the bounce with Rudy. You will probably be fine.

I woke up at 2 AM EST and checked in but only saw test through +3 and now at 6:23 AM Update when you get a chance. I'm on pins and needles to how Rudy did .
