I can but storms coming here withib 2-3hrs here and really hot here...95 so storms coukd be bad. . Not comfy with full dose. Not far from NS the other day.
Protocol said can do a portion of dose but what portion?

I don't know if there's a specific portion that is usually used (others might know, though). I think in this case I'd say "you hold the syringe" and (assuming there isn't a more experienced voice to make a specific recommendation in the next few minutes), shoot what you are comfortable with.

That said: eventually it will be a really good thing to get these kinds of numbers to shoot! We keep saying it, but it's true-- Lantus is very good at giving flat cycles at low numbers, so when you get a pre-shot like this, it gives a chance at a cycle of safe, pancreas-healing numbers. I understand, though, that a night that has severe thunderstorms on the horizon (stressful for all involved-- does Sprocket get scared and hide in thunderstorms?) may not be a night you want to do it.

The only other thing I'd suggest is that, if you haven't shot yet, get another test in. He may be on his way up anyway (like he was on the evening of 5/11), which might make it less stressful to shoot.

Adding: I need to go offline for a few hours now, but I'll be sure to check in later to see how you guys are doing (assuming I have power/internet-- you aren't the only one with severe thunderstorms predicted!). Good luck!

@Dyana
@Nan & Amber

Thanks. Ok. Dyana. He ate at 620pm already. Only 1.75 oz of 4 carb. He usually eats 2oz at least but with reduction of food now the other cat is eating more of her portion.
Storms coming...95 with humidity here so they could be bad.
With Aprils logic of storms raise bg & Nans advice. Plus Hollys too. Chris is unavailable.

I did 2.5units even though the SLGS protocol says no insulin under 150. Since just skipped a dose the other night I dont feel comfy doing that so I went with a little less.
2.5u at 6:58pm.
Will retest at +1. Then decide if I should give a little more food.
I hope you all agree with my educated decision. It wasnt easy but I have learned from everyone.

2.5 is okay, it will allow some insulin to go into the depot. I would write "2.5 BCS" in the units column for tonight, so it doesn't look like you are reducing the regular dose.
Good luck tonight. Gather the candles and put batteries in the lanterns for just in case. Been there ;) with lower BG in my cat with no electricity before.

Since I reduced dose if he goes under 90 does he still earn a reduction??
Yes, if you're following SLGS, then he gets a reduction from his regular dose of 3.0 units, if he goes below 90.
I would try to get him to eat a little bit of LC food to get him on a surfboard. It is early in the cycle. You may have a long night.

Ok what does BCS mean?

Got big lanterns.
Gonna check at +2. N then feed.
Should i before?

I would feed him a little now, trying to get him to stay up a little. The Lantus will start it's effect around +2 and you don't really want him diving too much when the latest dose of Lantus starts to take effect. BCS means Big Chicken Shot. It's not personal, it's just what we call it when we do a one time reduced dose for some reason like we can't monitor that cycle or the cat is not eating or some other rare occurrence and sometimes when we just don't feel comfortable giving the full dose for that one cycle.

Ok...i get the BCS but is it not if my protocol says no insulin under 150 but i still did it...so technically its not a big chicken shot...lol

You can just mark it as a one-off reduction if you prefer. It's just something so that people reading your spreadsheet know that you didn't actually reduce his dose in any sort of permanent way.

You're right, you did fine. I hated writing what it meant, because I didn't want to offend you in anyway. You did good shooting that number. I'm proud of you. :bighug:

Thanks but he just dropped at +3/55.
Gave 13 carb. Ff marinated tuna morsels with extra gravy.
He ate half can plus a little extra gravy.
She left some too. So 1.70oz plus gravy.

Will retest shortly. Storm now.

Ok. Another storm now. Hope over soon
Was able to test inbetween...
+3.6/84.
So will retest again after storm.

Another reduction!
Wow! He was at 3.75u just 2 weeks ago n now going to 2.75u.

2am....+7/191!

I am impressed with this evening....storms on and off....testing and feeding in between....and Sprocket even layed on table bed through one storm & fell asleep as the other cat went running to hide!!!
He always hides!
He is getting more courageous!!

He earned another reduction without trying even though we reduced his dose because he started off lower.

Wow! My education has paid off so far!!
With some help from Nan, April, Holly, Dyana tonight!

What a night!! He is another step closer to balancing out.
Hope his bounce is not too high and not too long.
Now for some sleep.
Gnight.:cat::bighug::)

Yay, Darnell and Sprocket! What a night! Reduction earned (safely), and a nice run of good numbers, despite the storms.

It is funny to hear that Sprocket is getting more courageous lately-- first the noise the other day, now thunderstorms, and he is cool as a cucumber! Maybe it's part of him feeling better now that he's well past the DKA and starting to get into better BG numbers?

Hope you got a good night's sleep-- you earned it!
