@Noah & meI do not know the insulin and outs of Prozinc. I would say if you are cautious about giving it to him and can not be with him maybe give half dose? So at least he's not getting no insulin. I'm just not comfortable suggesting dose. Or when in doubt don't give it.
Thank you, I did post there, but nobody looks at it anymore. I've decided to give her .5 again.Sorry, Noah is Caninsulin/Vetsulin. On a VERY SHORT TERM BASIS I think any cat is better too high than too low. Can you sneak home early from work, long lunch? You can copy this post into the Prozinc forum. I know so little about Prozinc I haven't even looked at his curves.
I agree with too high vs too low. I usually don't shoot (Vetsulin) if my guy is under 250 because sometimes he drops a little too quickly. I know that's probably rather cautious but I'd rather ere on the side of safety. I look at it this way: too low could kill him whereas too high is a crappy situation but it won't risk his life.Wait, what do you mean "gave her .5 AGAIN" How long ago was the first .5? Cripes, I wish I could be of more help. Does anyone disagree with better too high than too low. My feelings aren't what matters right now.
That's exactly right. Not scientific and probably something I'm not really supposed to say but I've followed that rule with two cats over 5+ years. We can deal with high numbers later and it won't mean a day off at the emergency clinic.I look at it this way: too low could kill him whereas too high is a crappy situation but it won't risk his life.
Totally agree, rather be high than to low. That's exactly right. Not scientific and probably something I'm not really supposed to say but I've followed that rule with two cats over 5+ years. We can deal with high numbers later and it won't mean a day off at the emergency clinic.
Makes perfect sense. We all have to go to work or pick up the kids. It's not being mean or neglectful, that's life.and you can't monitor skipping is the best option
She is at 374 and just finished 3 oz of Fancy Feast by herself (Chico is outside.). How much Prozinc should I give her? I'm thinking 1 unit.I am so sorry but, just getting this tag now; I was offline all morning getting new internet service. When ever you are presented with a number lower than you have shot before and can not monitor at all, always better to skip and be to high for a day than too low .
She has been on ProZinc long enough that you can start lowering the no shot number. When you are able to monitor and she presents with a 200 again, I would shoot it and get some data to see how she does with that.
Thank you for your concern about Chloe. I think she's doing fine. I've been giving her the Zobaline. She seems perkier lately. I wish she would go into remission.I wasn't on earlier or didn't see your post. I'm not getting very many notifications in email for some reason. Maybe my decreased forum activity during my vacation had something to do with that-- anyways- back to the issue here.
I think if you decide to shoot under 200 you need to be careful. The first time you do maybe have a "no shot" number of 175. So between 175 and 200 if you shoot I would give a decreased dose of .25 units the first time and do at least a mini curve- which is every 3 hours testing. .25 is not much but she doesn't really go up that much after no shot on a 200.
Looking at Chloe's spreadsheet and the data you have... I think she is a bouncy kitty. I liked the preshot the .5 units gave her on 5/16 and 5/14.
With the recent preshot tests you are getting you can start to see how she's doing much better than shooting blind. If you can get some mid cycle tests-- even if it's just one test between +3 to +6 it will help us feel more comfortable giving you dose opinions or input.
Our first priority is to NOT cause anyone to harm their kitty (unintentionally) by following any of our opinions of increase or decrease. We don't just care about your kitty- we also don't want you to have a broken heart over a sick or worse kitty because of one of our discussions on doses. (I know I sound like a broken record repeating the same thing over and over but it really does stress some of us out to help a bean come to a decision on a dose without more data... we end up on edge til we hear from the bean again)
Today, I have a workshop at 5:30 pm, so I will be home a bit late, maybe 8We'd love her to go into remission too! And lot of kitties on Prozinc do. Those preshot tests you're getting now will help us to advise you to hopefully get her closer to that, and some mid cycle tests ANY TIME YOU CAN (even just a before bed tests 2 or 3 hours after PM shot) will help too. The more data, the better, especially now when you don't have much to go off of.![]()
