Sophie's bounces are getting higher and higher. This is the highest I've ever seen. I am trying to catch any dropping numbers in the blue by feeding 15% carbs snack and increased meals to 8-10% (normally been on 1%) to try to get this to level out. I am so frustrated and beside myself. My vet will definitely want a dose increase or change her insulin. I simply don't know what to do. She is eating, drinking, behaving normal. Anyone have any other suggestions getting out of these severe rebounds? It's been over 2 weeks. Im just not used to her doing this before.

Hey there. Yes, bounces are very frustrating and they bounce till they stop. Some cats bounce all the way into remission. Try not to be too frustrated. About her dose: it is working for her, she is hitting greens and the dose should not be increased right now. With the 57 you got yesterday PM cycle, there is no room to go down anymore. The bounces can last 6 cycles or 3 days so this is where you need to put on some patience pants. We have all had to wear them. LOL

Are you using a human meter or the AT2? If you could put that information into your signature it would help us help you better.

Morning.:coffee:

Which protocol are you following? If it's slgs.... she has earned a reduction. And you should lower the dose to 0.75u.

if you look on your ss back on may 4, you had a black bounce from the low number of the day.
I suspect that you had a low number last night after you went to bed.

imho, she won't need an increase.
Lantus dose is determined by how low the dose takes you..... you have to ignore those high bounces.

So I was going to follow TR however if you see my post from last week, I was encouraged by Jill & Meya to hold 1u & feed higher carbs bc of the recent DKA. I specifically mentioned reducing by .25u then bc that it what TR would have me do. I just don't know at what point to try to follow TR again.

I think that since she is so recently DKA that it would be a smart move to not take the reduction now and continue with TR so that you can get adequate insulin into her by feeding the curve as Meya mentioned in your post last week. Tagging @Meya14 as she has experience with DKA

You are doing super and keep posting and asking questions so we can help you. :bighug:

Ouch! Sometimes the bounces from fast drops are bigger than those from low numbers. Neko gave me lots of blacks in the beginning so I know how that feels. I think it's a good idea to try to feed those drops. Just make sure you keep testing a couple hours after you feed the higher carbs. The carbs can wear off and kitty can drop again.

And I agree, no increase at this point.

Hi there! When was the last ketone test (I didn't see it on the spread sheet). I noticed she has gained about a half a pound, that is great. Do you have any idea or guess what her ideal weight might be based on her build? Gaining a bit of weight is a good sign that she is clearing the danger zone of DKA and it can help prevent those big swings in BS. At this point I would hold the current dose and keep "feeding the blues" as you are doing. You might see all the blood sugars go up and kinda stay into the yellow, but without all the ups and downs - just all yellow numbers or higher. If this happens, then you can increase, and hopefully the whole curve will start to come down.

Of course regulation is the goal, however, it can be a very long-term goal. Regulation and remission take time. At this point, try to notice other indicators of improvement as well: No ketones, weight gain to pre-DKA weight or more if cat was too skinny, decrease in excessive drinking or eating, decrease in urination, more energy, etc.
