Morning all! Not happy seeing a 174! I wonder why it's so high today? Continued with the .25 micro shot.

Have a great day everyone!

If she did go low 2 nights ago, it could be a bounce from that. I still think she may have been in light greens that night and you did mention she was wobbly the following morn. Would be good if you woke up to test at around +9 on an overnight cycle when she is trending down from +2 to +3 and headed for greens.

Cats like to keep you guessing! :bighug: She could be bouncing from the 91 yesterday afternoon. Her numbers kept going up after that.

It's not that much different.

Rembering that insulin is a hormone, and that it's reported that absorption can vary by up to 50% can go someway to explaining the variations we see.

It may be that she just didn't quite get the duration out of the shot today, so that would see ps numbers creep up.
I shouldn't worry about it.

Hi Nicole, she could have dropped some more last night and is bouncing. The +3 you got last night with meter variance + /- 20 % is basically the same number as the +2. So, it's possible she saw a lower number by nadir and is bouncing a bit. Not to worry.

Ok.
Friday morning I'm going out of town and leaving DH in charge, I'm not back until late Monday afternoon. Question is, Friday the 2 girls will be alone after I leave the house at 630am and unfortunately, hubby is flying home and won't be in the house till around 830pm. Not ideal at all. I will leave out extra food for the day - when he gets home, he will test Aurora immediately and give fresh food - should he shoot Friday evening or just skip it completely and resume Saturday AM again as normal? He will be around all weekend to check her multiple times per day - I doubt I can convince him to post here on the board but I will do my best.

If he shoots two hours late it will mean he has to shoot 11 1/2 hours later plus if she drops he might be up all night. I'd have him skip.

Just leave directions on how to post and I bet if he needs help he will. We've had several spouses post as needed. I'd print how to handle low numbers for him as well.

yeah, I agree, I'll have him skip it completely but I'll still have him check her BG anyways just to see where she's at. I will have access to wifi so I can log on and hopefully with the spreadsheet on google apps I can get that figured out. I'll try and make due. Yes, I have everything printed out in the kitchen cabinet already incase of a hypo though with this low of an amt of insulin, hopefully that doesn't happen.

I knew you would have everything printed but mentioned it just in case.
No worries - I think what's so cool about this group is how everyone is so helpful, always a good reminder when momma bean is going out of town. I'll go over everything with him again before I leave just to keep things fresh in his mind. He can call me anytime if he's got questions. I'm proud that DH is doing such a good job testing her - he was nervous at first but did a great job! I feel confident going away that he will have everything well under control.

You are so lucky he's willing. I had no help and not much sleep but I'd trade that in a minute to have my Max back. I don't think you two will be doing this dance for long though.

Here is another option. Skip Friday morning since no one is around all day Friday to test her. DH e could get insulin in her Friday night when he gets home but like Elise said, the earliest he could shoot her Saturday morning would be 11 1/2 hours later. As long as your schedule can be off by that much making up 1/2 hour earlier every day until back on track again and then she will be safe all day Friday and still get insulin in her on Friday night and only be off schedule for a few days.

nah, with me being the main primary, I'd rather keep her on the 6:15am/pm schedule. I will give her insulin Friday AM, she'll be fine...and we will skip Friday night completely.
I'm home Thursday all day to monitor her and I don't think we plan to increase her dose, even if we did, I wouldn't make any decisions until next week when I'm back.

Hi Nicole.

I just wanted to comment here on a post you did on Anna & Spooter's condo.

Many of us have had the same issues with a vet that you describe. The best way to deal with them is to show them the results. I would suggest taking the spreadsheet in, but she might freak out and tell you the cat is hypoing. In my experience, vets that have the "don't test so much" attitude think anything under 150 is dangerous. I handled it by not bringing the subject up, and when they did so, I'd reply that he was pretty well regulated and running normal numbers on his current dose. Then I'd change the subject.

We have all perfected something we call "nod and smile" when the vet starts telling us how to handle FD. Just remember, although she is a vet and you're not, Aurora is YOUR cat, and you are paying her. Of course, once you tell her how well Aurora is doing, she might be genuinely interested in finding out what you did, in which case you can show her the spreadsheet and tell her about FDMB. She might surprise you. I wouldn't volunteer that info unless she does seem interested, just in case she doesn't like it. If you are otherwise happy with your vet, you want to maintain a good relationship, cause you need her for your insulin prescription and any other health concerns Aurora might have.

I'm so happy to see that your DH has gotten comfortable with testing and will be looking after Aurora while you are gone. I'm sure that is a huge relief to you!

Thanks for replying in my condo! I recall when Aurora was first diagnosed, I got a piece of scratch paper from the reception desk and I started writing down notes like a mad person - I do remember she made a remark that she has patients who test daily and send her all these spreadsheets with numbers and that it was overkill and she didn't think it was necessary. For the 2nd curve when I took her in, I asked about ketones that I read about and she said they handle that at the office, I didn't need to worry about it. The 3rd flag was her pushing the diabetic dry food. I'm not getting the vibe that she's going to be open about this, though, I could be wrong. I'm with you, I feel for the most part, we know our cats best - I can just see how Aurora is acting that she's feeling better! I feel so empowered and confident that I know how to test her and with the help of the group, I know that we're in the best hands possible! I may just avoid her completely and see the owner going forward, she's always been very encouraging of me seeking out alternative treatments so I'd feel good that she would be open to what I'm doing with Aurora's diabetic treatment plan.

That sounds like a good idea. The owner sounds like the best kind of vet. I have a couple like that now, and it really makes all the difference. I'm glad you're feeling empowered and in control. This dance can definitely shake your confidence and make you crazy! Since I joined this board, I've learned so much about cats' health and nutrition. It makes me sad I didn't learn it sooner, as there is one cat I lost that I might have saved had I known what I know now. :( Knowledge is power!

Agree! My old cat had CKD and I was part of Tanya's group for afew years - I agree, knowledge is definitely power! When you know better, you do better!
I try to pay it forward by helping others on other cat sites - thought I'm still learning here, I'm able to pass along some helpful tid bits from my CKD days to others so that makes me feel good.

Don't you just hate that? Did she just surf all day or did she visit the lagoon and is on her way back up? She's not talking, is she? Hope she gives you a nice, safe surf tonight.

+2 is now 147 no lagoon for Aurora tonight. Still stick with the .25 or should we think about an increase? Hubby is home all day tomorrow but she would be alone wed all day. I'm home Thursday and then leave to go out of town Friday leaving dh in charge. All in all, blue numbers are still good so I shouldn't be too upset right?

@tiffmaxee thank you for the suggestion about google spreadsheets app I'm in business! Now I have to figure out how to edit my subject line without a keyboard to use the arrow to get to the end. I like to sit downstairs and watch tv at night and I dint have my wireless keyboard for iPad with me. Once I switch to the PMPS info, is to okay to remove the AMPS numbers from the title or is it preferred to keep the entire days history as a snapshot there?

I do 90% of my posts on my phone. Can you put the cursor as far to the right as you can then swipe it so you can see more after that?

Can you get a +2? That drop at +1 could mean something.
Yeah, I already posted the +2 - I just couldn't edit the thread subject line from my ipad but spreadsheet is updated and now I just updated subject since I'm back on laptop for a minute.

I would delete some of the numbers in the subject box. I'd leave the important ones. I mostly used my iPad without a keyboard and it took a little practice to get the cursor to the end if lots of numbers but it can be done.

She very well might hit green tonight since the +2 is about the same as the PMPS. I'd grab one more test if you can.

I agree that, unless Aurora starts swinging from the rafters, you should stick with this dose. These numbers are most likely below renal threshold, and they are safe, especially when no monitoring will be done. You can re-evaluate when you get home and make any necessary dose adjustments then.

I woke up at 2am which is +8 and tested her and she was at 174 - no significant change from the earlier evening numbers.
