I think that is a good idea. You need a break. He can still go down from the depot though. I'd test at +1. You may need to feed him some MC or HC.

If you skip, which I think is a good idea. Then it's AMBG 69, not AMPS. I agree with Carla in getting the +1 and before work test, he still has the depot of insulin, and he's Rex.
Good Luck with the new dose tonight.

Sorry all, but I can't do a +1 or +2. I test/feed/shoot and go to work. In my experience with Rex, +1 is always high because it is food-influenced. Today will be my short day because I have my son's school program so I'm going home first to check on Rex. If things are really slow at work, then I will get a +6 and a +7, but the +7 is for sure.

ETA: Sorry - habit! I mean +18 and +19.

I'm interested in seeing where Rex ends up tonight. Pretty much 2 more dose amounts left on the spectrum here buddy... so close I can taste it for you LOL

The super small amount of: holding syringe plunger tightly, inserting into pen and releasing. The vacuum will draw up a tiny bit of insulin. I don't know if everyone does this step.
That was my teeny drop.
It's usually recommended that you try and continue insulin support as long as it is safe to do so. It's been found that taking them down slowly if you can will lead to stronger remissions. Of course, some cats have their own ideas and it's not always possible
The idea is that the continued support allows the delicate new beta cells to heal and become stronger, and that can contribute to stronger remissions.

Good luck with the drop dose. Personally I'd be inclined to skip again tonight unless he zooms at least to blue. There may be some depot left but IMHO Rex just might be done with insulin.

I'm not a fan of the 30's you had last night. Skipping tonight would drain any questionable depot and you could attempt the drop dose tomorrow if needed. Just my 2 cents.

I second this wholeheartedly. If he still in nice greens tonight, he may be ready.

I'm with Wendy, as long as Rex gives you a shootable number (over 50). We know better than to assume anything with him!

I read about it somewhere but couldn't find it. Is it in one of the Stikies?

I must be mistaken or read inattentively but I keep thinking that there is a method when the needle is NOT submerged into the insulin liquid but rather you let the plunger go and it sucks in some insulin. I must be mistaken but it keeps churning in my head.. Have you heard anything like that?

I agree with Karen. I'd skip unless he comes up to blue. I think he's ready to be off insulin.

When you do the drop method, you push the plunger in and insert the syringe into the insulin while holding the plunger and then let go of the plunger. This sucks a drop into the syringe.

hmmm...when he threw a 36 on 05/02/PM+3, you skipped the AM shot and by PM+22 he was blue...

I'm adding my voice to the 'try the next dose' chorus. Provided you get a shootable number and can monitor and steer if needed, I'd try the 0.1u

I agree with Sandy, although knowing Rex, he'll probably only be on it for 2 cycles.

Oh Rex...... Mandy, I think he's done with insulin too...... I agree with skipping tonight again and doing a "drop" ( the suck up method) tomorrow AM . I haven't been here too long but, I have never seen a kitty go into hypo numbers on .25 dose. I know that Wendy said in a previous post that she heard about a cat that did. It's your call.

Ok. I was hearing both 0.1 or skip. I decided the drop dose is a good compromise. Let's see how Rex does.

How do I show that on the SS?

Here's h0w I did it. When you push the plunger in and hold it insert into the pen and release. A tiny drop will be in the syringe tip. When you shoot hold the needle into Rex and count to about 6-8 and take the syringe out still holding the plunger in. The reason, the vacuum that can happen when you release the plunger into the skin can actually suck the drop back up.

Exactly!

I gave the drop shot 25 minutes ago. I can't remember if I hold the plunger in when I pull it out. If I look at the syringe, could I see if I can push anything out?
You won't see anything but if you push the plunger in really tight there could still be a drop that you will see on the needle tip. When I did it the way I described, there was no drop left if I checked my pushing the barrel in tight after I shot.

I don't think it's going to matter tonight whether that drop got sucked back up or not because personally, I think that boy's done with this dance.

You are supposed to hold it in, but as Bobbie said, it doesn't matter now - it's done. We'll just see what Master Rex has to say for himself!

You think. Remember, a drop might have gone in. It's always best to assume they got some, just in case.
Good point, a 1/2 drop could have gotten in. I would still do a few checks on him tonight. I will be checking in and I sure hope I don't have to eat any extra carbs tonight. I think I wait until right before I drop into bed to brush and floss.
