Yes, weather's been crazy here, too. A few days ago so much hard rain that it was almost like the flood of March 2010.
Although Spring flowers succumbed to too much rain, the lilac blossoms are much happier and some herbs and veggies that I left outside in their pots have come back and are having quite a happy green is good party.

I never planted asparagus though Steve has childhood stories about his mother planting some in her WWII Victory Garden. After the war, his father turned part of that yard into a driveway. The asparagus kept coming up through the paving for years!

We're supposed to have more rain this week, too. Doesn't seem like Memorial Day is almost around the corner, but it is. Oh my.

Hugs and scritches from us all:bighug:

I'm now inspired, with your tips, @Bobbie And Bubba and @Woodsywife , to try to plant some this year (provided I can manage them not spreading too much!) Do asparagus like cold snap weather?
If you plant them this year, it takes about 3 years to get established. Worth the wait! I eat asparagus for 6 straight weeks, daily, LOL. The cooler weather he are having now has slowed mine down, but as soon as it gets warm again, they will be prolific again.

I thought the to skinny ones should go to seed for next year. Let me take a pic. I didn't pick because I wasn't home last week. A couple are too thick. But only one spear per plant so I didn't pick. There are no really good instructions on asparagus.

Happy belated Bubba - there's at least one mouse that got away.

DH has me cut them down and discard them to help the production for this year's production. At the end of the asparagus push this season you would leave them to go to seed for next year.

Apparently, when my mother was in her youth (she would be 95, now) asparagus was grown in my local area as a regular field crop. All these may years later, it still grows by many, many roadsides; it continues to seed itself, and is harvested every season by those lucky enough to get to it first!

What kind of asparagus do you have? I had M Washington planted and it went to seed all over the place. This year I planted a new plot but planted Jersey Giant which isn't supposed to go to seed. According to the package all the energy goes to producing spears instead of making seed. We shall see....

I have Jersey asparagus. Which one I don't know. At end of season I let them grow and they get red berry or seed.

I will have to ask DH, he is the one with the BS in Agriculture and does the planting. I am just the measly picker and processor...........and cooker and cleaner, and pickler and freezer and canner. Gosh, I do everything around here LOL!
