Cat Grass - do you use it? IBD Kitties?

Jones is driving me nuts. He has always has chewed on weird stuff but every spring he would drive us nuts trying to get to the back yard so he could eat grass. Of course he would just through it back up.

Since his dx last year for IBD, I have stopped him from doing this. He is going snaky trying to get outside.

So, does anyone give their cats cat grass to chew on? I would like to give him something that I know hasn't been outside and maybe contaminated with god knows what. Just not sure if good idea with the IBD.
 
Marco is the only cat I've ever had that nibbles on grass and doesn't hurl. As for the indoor catgrass I haven't read enough science on it. Eating is one thing, knocking over a planter of dirt and broken porcelain is another. Isn't broken porcelain shaper than broken glass? All our cats enjoy catnip but Lewis goes ballistic, attacking the other cats to get theirs. He's the same cat that's a bully and steals food from the other cats. No social skills.
 
I grow it for Maury every so often and he snacks on it. Occasionally uses it to throw up :rolleyes:. Haven't seen any impacts on his BG (antijinx) :cat:
 
I often wondered the same thing. Leo goes straight for anything green he can chew on. With his IBD though I know it irritates his intestinal tract and stomach so I'm not particularly fond of him doing this. Sometimes he chews on sticks! I wonder if he does this when he is already irritated and thinks that this will help.

I wondered the same thing. He was obsessive yesterday about chewing on stuff. I actually took my 6 foot fiscus tree to work as he just wouldn't leave it alone.
 
I was wondering about that too. Maybe she's one of those people who takes the bus and always hogs an extra seat. Probably puts he feet up on the seats too. Well Tracie, what kind of person are you? Are you better than the rest of us? Taking up two seats on the bus or, oh gawd, she takes a limo everywhere! What a snob, probably one of those Canadians, beady eyes, eats doughnuts, subsidizes softwood. You don't speak French do you? "Je suis un snobe". Excuse me but J'ai besoin de pêter.
 
Myrtle loves to eat the lawn in the backyard - doesn't puke though - I think she's part cow. I used to have a burmese who also loved grass and puked it up every time. I don't think it does them any harm though

My civvie LOVES tape. He will chew on tape til he passes out. I can't leave it on boxes of it's sticking up even a little bit. I'm sure the adhesive isn't good for him so I don't allow it. Both of my cat's eat grass. They love cat grass and I cant keep it growing because they're like goats. I thought about planting a long planting box outside with it so they will eat that instead of regular grass. They probably would eat both anyhow. I haven't treated my grass with anything since 2011 so I'm not worried about that.
Chuck has mid IBD and it didn't seem to change anything. He pukes some up and the other comes out the other end.

KT just LOVED his grass - I'd have to cut a few pieces and give them to him individually. If I put the pot where he could get to it, he'd mow every bit of it within a few minutes....and puke everywhere.

There's a REALLY cheap way to get the wheatgrass....if you're in an area where wheat grows even in small fields, go to your local grain elevator and ask to buy a 'little bit' of wheat seed - I used to take a big 'baggie' with me. Many times they'll take you to the unloading chute and just let you grab a few handfulls free. If not, your local farm feed store also likely carries it too. It's a LOT cheaper for a LOT more that way. I kept 3 pots growing - 1 fresh planted, 1 half grown and 1 being eaten on. Just used little 4" plastic pots sitting in the bathroom window.

Have NO idea if it helps with IBD, I just know the look of 'Heaven' on KT's face. Dakota - he has absolutely NO use for green stuff.

Crap, cats out of the bag now. You've seen people shorten long replies right? I've done it and added punctuation and capitalized letters etc. So I wondered if you could change everything.

There's something else really creepy I found, I'll share later. Also, I really dislike Ovechkin. He's not a team player. Hope McDavid breaks all his records (does he have any?) in half the time. Bedtime for me, housework makes me sleepy. I vacuum but never put it away.
 
Phoebe was obese with corn greens, not the silks. Just the husks. She hears the rip of husks and came running. I have a picture somewhere. ( hard to believe I know)
 
Awww- what a sweet little face! Reminds me of my previous little girl with the pink nose and big round eyes.
 
Oat grass and loves it. Doesn't throw-up, stays down. We can get seeds very inexpensively at the feed store and grow our own. We grow three pots a week.

He also loves other greens as well. My salad is often his salad.
 
I never thought anything of the grass eating with any of my previous cats except the ones that had IBD. The blades of grass can be very irritating to Leo when he throws them up. I can tell by the look on his face and how he reacts when he's trying to get them up. If he just chews on the green leaves but doesn't swallow them he's ok. Normal kitties probably have an easier time with the grass and subsequent pukes.
