Hi kitty friends,

As I am waiting for the ACRO and IAA test results, I am trying to take care of my kitty as best as possible. The new vet did okay the smaller size meals, but did say I should do more of a meal before shots. Last night, Tiff was not terribly hungry before her shot. We had to coax her to eat, which normally does not happen.

I am trying to make the midday meal a smaller size, so she will be hungry tonight. Is that what I should be doing? And is it okay to give insulin if they do not eat more than 1/2 of the food? She is starting to get finicky with her food...trying everything. Wuerva, Tiki Cats, Nulo....unfortunatey she has a taste for FF. (@Wendy&Neko )

Thank you again!!

Jadi

When using the "older" or fast-acting insulins, you want to have a meal on board prior to shooting because they start working quickly. However, *usually* Lantus does not begin to start working (called "onset") until about 2 hours after the shot. That means you have about two hours to get kitty to eat before the onset of the insulin. Your new vet may not know that.

Not Wendy, but oftentimes kitties do well when fed before the lowest point of the cycle. The reason is feeding after nadir will sometimes put the brakes on whatever action is left from the insulin in that cycle.

I just tested her PMPS and she was 200! A rare number for her!
It IS awesome! The first one in two weeks!
I just tested her PMPS and she was 200! A rare number for her! She is hungry and eating her dinner. Hoping that maybe 7 units twice a day is working.
I am glad that she is eating, even it is so called junk food :D but because the PMPS is low and the dose is high I want to tell you that taking the +2 test might be good idea for tonight.
Tiffy isn't a dropper, but still - better safe than sorry.
The +2 usually tells you what direction the current cycle will take:
if +2 is the same or lower than PMPS - there will be lowering in BG down the cycle, how low - depends on how lower the +2 compared to PMPS;
if the +2 is higher then mostl likely it is quiet, but ECID.
Sorry to sound too cautious. She maybe actually bounce, or maybe not...:confused:
I am hoping that you will get 2nd opinion soon.
:bighug:

Sorry, I didn't get the tag and was travelling from California to Arizona today, so not on line. Thankfully Jill was and has answered the questions.
