I checked Leonitus's glucose after giving him the wet food for breakfast I just started him on wet food after trying everything else he's on friskies pate so I give him 1/2 in the morning 1/2 in the afternoon and 1/2 at night it was still really high this morning after him eating so I gave him 2 units insulin and then checked him again at the 6 hour mark after he had eaten his lunch and his glucose is at 245 I know that's still a bit high but this is the lowest he's ever been so I'll give him his dinner and then check it again tonight before his shot to see were it's at. Now I just need to see how much insulin to be giving him I don't want to give him to much. He also has nueropathy and I've heard to give him zobaline but after getting his medicine, new food, and syringes and also getting my other baby her thyroid medication I'm completely broke will he be okay with his nueropathy until I can save up to buy zobaline? What is a good glucose level? I use an alphatrak meter to check his glucose

Welcome Angela and Leonitus! :bighug:
Glad you are already home testing. Here is the spreadsheet template most of us use to track BG numbers:
http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/fdmb-spreadsheet-instructions.130337/

If you could setup your signature information it will help from everyone asking the same starter questions: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/editing-your-signature-profile-and-preferences.130340/

And I like to give this to new members, better to be prepared: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/how-to-treat-hypos-they-can-kill-print-this-out.15887/

Ideally you want to do a pre-shot test, where he has not eaten anything for 2 hours prior so the number is not food influenced. Pre-shot test is about 30 minutes before actual shot time. Minimum tests recommended are morning and evening pre-shots (AMPS and PMPS), Any extras in between help figure out what the current dose is doing. You can hold off on the Zobaline, I have because I cannot afford it either right now. The best thing that will help his neuropathy is getting his diabetes better regulated. Normal glucose levels on the Alpha Trak 2 meter are 68 - 120. Feel free to ask more questions :cat:

Welcome!!

What insulin are you giving him and how much?
Since when has he been on insulin ?
How is his weight under weight/normal/over how much does he weight ?
Does he has any other health issues besides the neuropathy?

I also strongly recommend you set up the spreadsheet it will help a lot

He's on novoline n the vet had him on 3 units am and 2 units pm but since I started him on wet food and I knew his Glucose would drop I only gave him 2 units this am. He's been on insulin for a few months now. He weighs between 8-9 pounds and no other health issues other then nueropathy

I don't know much about novolin other than it is a fast acting insulin, since I've used Lantus, hoppefully some one with experience on that type of insulin will hope in

I the mean time I suggest you change your title and put something that would easily tip others that you need advice on dosing, something like "Novolin dose advice required" and a "?"

Also is he still going down or not?

To change your tread title you go to the top where it says "Tread tools" click on it an other option that says "Edit title" will appear, click on it and your title will open for edit

I just started today and 245 has been the lowest so I'm going to give it a few to see if it starts dropping lower

how many hours has it been since you shooted?

Ad the part where you ask for dosing advice to your title so the really experienced ones catch you need advice more easily

I just gave him his shot at 10pm and checked his glucose 30 min prior with no food and it was at 337 pre shot

Angela, first, HUGS...we were all stressed when we arrived and still get that way sometimes.

How much did you give him?

We have members worldwide and across all time zones so '10pm' doesn't help us understand unless we know what time zone you're in. That's something you'll want to put in your signature when you have time to create that. Until then, it will help if you add that behind the time in your post. I THINK you're probably Eastern Standard Time?

Just ask questions...we all 'get it'...

Yes eastern standard time I checked him at 9:30 pm est and it was 337 gave him his food and then his shot at 10 pm est he was on 3 units am and 2 units pm but since I switched him to solely wet food I changed it to 2 units am and 2 units pm until I find out how this wet food and insulin is working.

I just keep telling myself I will get this eventually I'm just a bit stressed
It's okay I would say normal to be stressed but you are doing great keep asking you've reached a great place with great people that will help you. Also you will start learning how Leontius reacts and that will help

When you get some time try and set up the spreadsheet it will really help you and the others here to see what's happening

I left her all the "newbie" links in my first reply to her here :). I didn't want to push too much because I know Angela is still overwhelmed right now :bighug:. If you need help with the Spreadsheet setup, Angela, just ask me :). Only takes a couple minutes.

I looked but I'm totally lost on the spreadsheet I'm using my phone though so I don't know if that makes a difference. I have been saving in my notes on my cell the am pre shot level and the 6 hour level and the pm pre shot level and how much insulin and time and dates

We can totally help with the SS (Spreadsheet). A handful of people have been maintaining it through their smartphone. Just need the app for Google Sheets. I can get it all ready for you and you would just have to fill it in and put the link in your Signature. Just let me know!:)

With a phone you will want to download the app called Google Sheets to do the spreadsheet.

Once you've downloaded the app the spreadsheet will work just like in the computer, the first column you will put the date, the columns in blue is where you put the dose, left of the blue columns you will put your results for you test previous to shooting AMPS will be the morning test and the PMPS will be night test

Does anyone know the safe range for glucose to were he won't need a shot? If it's in that range I don't want to give him a shot and he drops to low. He was at 273 this morning pre shot gave him 2 units and checked at 4 pm after eating and it's at 144. The vet told me if it's in 250 - 300 to give 3 units and if it's at 200 2 units so if it's lower then 200 I'm not sure what to do? He also said that he doesn't understand how switching to wet food only would drop his glucose like that without having dry food

The thing is dry food has more carbs than wet food, and carbs eventually become sugar in his bloodstream so even is not a direct relationship (not all carbs end up there and there are other issues that enter the play ) more carbs end up being more sugar in his blood so less carbs usually means a drop in his glocose

We typically tell newer members like yourself not to shoot below 200 until you get lots of BG data on Leonitus :). Did you need me to setup your Spreadsheet since you have the app now?

Yes please if you can I checked it tonight it was at 278 so I gave him 2 units but the vet told me anything over 250 he wanted me to give him 3 units but I was scared he would drop to low

Do you know if there's anywhere to get help with supply's? Like lancets and alphatrak test strips I'm running low and I don't have the funds at the moment to get any

The cheapest place for alpha strips is amazon. The cheapest place for lancets is Adwdiabetes.com. I get a box of 100 for $1.19
