Ok, so Myrtle is very resistant to me testing her bg levels (has let me only do it twice so far) so I've been taking her to the vet once a week 5 hours after her am dose to get her checked at her most likely lowest bg point. 1st Saturday her bg was 12.2 (219), 2nd Saturday her bg was 11.2 (202), and yesterday (Friday as I couldn't go Saturday) it was only 4.2 (76) so the vet kept her a few extra hours and at 4.30pm - 2 hours before she was due for her next shot - it was 11.5 (207) - he said to go ahead and give her her usual dose as her bg was still a bit high.
I felt it was a bit low and I just gave her 1iu instead of her usual 1.5iu in the evening. This morning when she was due for 1iu, I gave her what I call a "conservative" one just above the 1iu line so a tiny bit less. Miracle of miracles, 5 hours after her dose this morning she let me test her bg! and it was 4.2 (76) again. So I have some questions would it be the insulin or diet bringing on this lower bg levels (even though she is still eating carbs it is less and lower cal than previously and she is eating much more wet food - she has also lost some weight in the last few months). Do you think I should lower the dose? Vet says to leave it but I don't want her having a hypo? I know I should test her regularly and I will try but Myrtle is very much a cat who only wants to be touched on her own terms and has started running from me sometimes now when she sees me coming because she thinks I'm going to do something to her
. ( I actually named her after the main character in the book/movie "The dressmaker" who is very tough and prickly and pushs everyone away but she really just wants to be loved and accepted.)
Anyway, any advice would be greatfully accepted. Thanks!

Always do AMPS and PMPS, even if that's all you do for the day. Myrtle is headed in a very good direction but that doesn't make her numbers predictable. We want her safe too
