Hi everyone again, I've been super busy the past few days, but I'm back here about Dave again! He's fully swapped to his LC canned food, and his numbers seem to be dropping. I wanted to get some advice about what to dose for his next insulin shot, in six hours time.

Tomorrow's my first morning shooting Dave before I go to school, and I want to have an idea of what I'll be doing. I've decided that I'm going to follow TR, but wanted to wait until the weekend before I do his first increase so that I can keep an eye on him. I'm guessing you guys will need his AMPS before being able to tell me what exactly I should do, and I'll add it when I get it, but it would be great to have some idea of what to do if it's low in the morning again and I don't have time to stall.

It'd also be great to know how long the shot can be delayed for - for example, if I get dropped off at school, is it to late for my parents to give it 45 minutes later than normal?

I am bumping your post up so you can talk dosage with someone with good experience.

In my humble opinion, since Dave had that nice blue nadir I'd keep the dose.

But again: let's see what other's think.:)

I see you are down under - that explains my confusion over the time

Your best tool for helping you decide what to do if faced with your lowest AMPS to date is to try and get a PM+10 or PM+11.
These BG spot checks will help keep you out of trouble. Let’s say that you have a lower than usual PS. If the PS is higher than +10 or +11, you know the insulin from that cycle is waning and that Dave is likely on his way up, and the number is probably shootable. However until you get more data, when shooting your lowest PS to date you always want to be able to get at least +2 and know that someone can be available to monitor and guide the cycle if needed.

You can delay as long as your schedule can accommodate the next shot being no sooner than 11.5 hours later. Keep in mind that if you stall and will need to get back to your original schedule, for safety sake you must not shoot earlier than 15 min each cycle or 30 min each 24 hours.

Lastly, if you have doubts you can always skip and think of it as a fur shot. Safety first.
Better a day too high than an hour too low. ;)

I just gave it to him, but he's had 70g of wet with 3% carbs.
Sounds good.
243 is very shootable number, the food amount is good.
Please take the +2 test and post it here and in the SS:).
Good food quantity - almost 2.8 oz in the US.
I would say you are ok to test +3 but because Dave is so recently from the dry food I'd say let's watch it and take the +2.

My mum is not 100% sure on how to do the spreadsheet, so she'll probably post here if anything goes wrong. I'll tell her to do a +2, thanks.

Ok, I'll be checking in.

Posting here is fine but please ask your mum to post the timing along with the BG test result, like in :BG 200, 2.5 hours after", I'll know it is +2.5.

I don't mean to complicate things :), really, just to be safe and to avoid confusion with the time difference.

Wishing Dave safe surf :bighug:

OK,
from 243 at pre-shot to 290 at + 2 means he ate well.
I think it is a quite cycle, maybe all yellow numbers.
I think you can tell your mum she is off pokey duty until + 6.:)

Your post is bumped up now and more experienced members can see it and gave their opinion.
@Bobbie And Bubba

let's hear what they say

You may need to talk to someone about the dosing.

Hey Jacqui, yes, looks like a food hike and not a particularly active cycle. I admit, I am a bit of a test- a- holic and I think I Mum would be fine waiting till +6 but, I would probably grab one around +4 or +5 .

OK, it is high for +5. He hasn’t eaten since his brekkie, right? Maybe an increase is due but I cannot tell.

I would open a new thread asking advice on the dosage. This one getting a little longer than convenient to read. Make the ? your prefix.

If you will post such question please make sure you mention that Dave is recently switched to the wet food entirely and that he eats low carbs only. It might have effect on his BG/insulin reaction.

Link this post to the new one with dosage question. This way ppl can read what was going on before.

I am going to take off. If you have concerns – just post. Reply to your own post – not edit, reply to it – to get it bumped up on the forum for the new eyes to see.

Hi again, sorry I forget to mention - it is getting late on pr 26 in the States, the East cost in particular, and it seems that the most experienced minds reside over there.
If you start a new thread now, starting with Apr 26th on the Title line that way ppl will know the thread is new, and the question is new.
Dave SS is not very up to date, shall we say.:) It's not helpful - most don't have time to read thru long posts but will have questions about tests, the food, ketones tests, etc - all what is fit into the SS.
Maybe you can do it on your next break? ;)
Also, is your mum sure that she didn't get a meter error? I mean mid cycle with no food higher than +2 looks odd to me but as you know I am myself a newbie:D.
Sending Dave good numbers soon vines!
:bighug:

He's 16.6 (299) at +6, so I don't think it's an error. I'll start up a new thread, and I should be able to update the spreadsheet in about 2 hours.
