Question: when I pulled the needle the vial, drops of insulin were on the needle, the grey rubber stopper part, a small stream down the side of the vial, my hands and I could clearly smell the scent of the insulin.

Will it be safe to use in the morning or should I wait for his dose until after the vet opens?

I figure it it leaks out, contaminants can get in the vial.

That could be a tear/flaw in the rubber stopper on the vial. Not sure what to suggest until you get a new vial. Are you using the 10 mL vial? Is it new in the box when you buy it? I ask because some people have had insulin that was taken from a vial at a clinic and transferred to another vial before they received it. The chance of contamination is increased then.

It's in a glass vial with a label printed by a label maker on it. It's placed in a vial @ vet office. I don't know what the original packaging was.

OK. That means it's been transferred from one container to another, probably the original 10 mL manufacturers vial into another by the clinic. I don't know if this means there can be an issue of contamination going on, aside from the flaw in the rubber end.

They shouldn't be repackaging it and reselling it at your vets office....there's no way to know how old it is, if it was kept sterile when they did it or anything else about it.....and there have been some reports of it being diluted by unscrupulous people
