With the 108 on 4/19 I'm thinking he was green earlier in the day. Hard to say for sure though. It's likely not the pen but you can try a new one if you want. If so don't increase at the same time.

Using 2 different meds I suspect is confusing things.

I am such a flounder sometimes...I need to sh*t or get off the pot at this point.

Here is what I was thinking as a plan:
  1. Ordered new pen - just in case but will hold that for after the weekend.
  2. Yesterday I decided just to stick with the pred, but I am thinking this morning that I started this whole mess for a reason and since tonight is budesonide night - I will stick with the budesonide going forward. He seems to be doing ok on it now and with it being a week of transition of the low dose of pred - I think things should be ok to drop the pred. If he doesn't do well over the long term on the IBD side, I can always ask a vet about switching back.
  3. I will keep the dose of a F1 drop over the next 3 days unless he goes below 50.
  4. Then assess where Jonesy is on Monday. If things don't improve, try new pen at the same dose for a 4 cycles.
  5. If things still don't improve then look for advise on dosage.

Does that sound like a good plan?

Everything is better when you have a plan! :) Can you buy Lantus over the counter in Alberta? I can here in Ontario and it's a heck of a lot cheaper than buying it through my vet.

Yes you can buy Lantus over the counter in Alberta - other members have. And it's much cheaper than the vet.

Take changes one at a time, give the change time to settle. Neko's numbers sometimes went up for a few days as we added a new med, as her body learned to process it. Then they'd drop back down. With IBD, you need to make sure changes are happening slowly. IBD required more patience than FD.

My patience blanket has a lot of holes in it. Like big gapping vortex's of impatience and indecision.

I will be sticking with this plan. And I hope with the weekend I can get a few more mid-cycle tests in and things settle a bit over the next week. I will post with any updates as we go.

It is $70 at the vets for 1 pen. When I asked at my pharmacy they wanted a script because he was a cat.... It was just easier to order at the vet's as my vet is off on early maternity due to complications. She was way easier to get a script out of especially now that they have been bought by VCA.

Seriously?? It is around $100 for 5 pens at the pharmacy. Try another human pharmacy. Amber got hers I think at Costco. Safeway is the cheapest here but I have also got it at a good price at Superstore. Nobody asked for a script. The pharmacist I first dealt with knew more about what to get than the vet did. She has a lot of feline clients.
