Morning

I hope Fritz gets better.
Not sure about the drug. This was kinda the same problem we were having with Willow.
The inhaler seemed to fix her problem. I only use it now when she is coughing really bad and she has not done this for a few days.

One of the problems we had after she vomited was no matter how much food I gave her, her numbers dropped.
When this happens now I give her gravy food and she surfs safely. I have done this three time and it worked all three times.

@Amy&TrixieCat
Amy Fritz has a lung infection the vet has him on fluids and orbax. Im hoping that us one of the safe ones. Carla thought that Trixie might have had that one.

I was told to be careful only using the Albuertol rescue without the Flovent. Fritz is off the Flovent as it was causing issues with his nose and throat. Fritz wont eat any of the gravy foods.I have tried every brand and flavor. He'll eat the FF classic chicken with honey drizzled on it.

Trixie was on Zeniquin for 6 weeks (just finished it a little over a week ago) for a sinus infection (along with other possible mystery infections), not Orbax. However, my civvie Zen did have Orbax last year when he had an anal gland infection. He's not diabetic, so I can't say anything about how it might affect BGs, but he did do fine on this particular AB - he didn't seem to have any side-effects and it did knock the infection out.

Sending tons of prayers for sweet Fritz...please keep us posted.

No shot today at the vet all day on fluids and Orbax antibiotic.
Need advise as to what I should dose for PMPS????

Oh Deb, I am so sorry that Fritz isn't feeling well. I don't have any experience with Orabax at all. As far as the dose tonight , I don't know how to guide you with the dose that he is on. Tagging @Wendy&Neko since she has more experience with high dose kitties.

Keeping good thoughts and sending vines to Fritz and to you. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Maybe 8.5 units? He will likely be sky high tonight with no insulin and the vetty visit. But a little bit lower dose might be better until he's back to old Fritz again.

:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I had a kitty on orbax for chronic rhinitis. He was on it on and off for several years without any negative effects that I know of.

Sending more vines!

Oh Deb, I'm so sorry Fritz isn't feeling well and you both had a rough night. Saying prayers the orbax works quickly with no ill side effects. I agree on bringing his dose down to 8.5. As the AB's start to work and those numbers last night I think it's a warranted reduction :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I have seen other kitties here on Orbax. Ann's Tess was on it for her URI's. @Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) attempted giving it to Rusty recently. Paws crossed it works for Fritz. Be better soon big guy.:bighug:

Rusty's vet prescribed Orbax (the liquid formulation) for a flare-up of Rusty's chronic congestion. But Rusty is not a good patient and it was impossible to get it into him (it got all over us, however). Anyway, he got better by himself!
Ann (@Ann & Tess GA ) liked it very much and Tess did well on it. It's a "general" antibiotic. Ann liked it because it didn't upset Tess's stomach the way that Clavamox did.

I hope Fritz will be feeling better soon. Lots of vines are on the way.

He's home but boy oh boy he had had enough they called and said please come help get the IV out. He was not happy with them after BW, X-ray and IV all day.
He was +9.5 324 so I will give him the 8.5u he hasn't had pred for a few days and is off that thyroid med. So his numbers should reflect that soon.
Thanks ladies for the quick response. Appreciate it!!!!:bighug::bighug::)

Is he feeling nauseous? Does he approach the food, lick his lips and walk away? Or hanging out at the water bowl. You don't want to give an appetite stimulant to a nauseaos cat so you would treat that first.

I fixed his food tried putting sardine juice to entice him he just looked smelled and turned away. Is it safe to give him the Ondansrtron with the antibotic? HE had Baytril today at the vet I start his Orbax tomorrow morning.Ill try and feed him a little later. Hes BG was 227 since he wouldn't eat I gave him 6 u instead of 8.5 afraid if he won't eat at all tonight Is be dealing with low numbers and no food in him.

Sounds a bit like nausea. Is the vet closed? Could you call and ask about the drug combo? I've seen people give ondansetron and ABs before, but have no personal experience with it. Good call on the reduced dose.

No they are closed. I'll monitor him tonight and if he sleeps and his numbers stay in the safe I'll call first thing in the morning.
Appreciate your help! :)

I am a big fan of being ahead of the nausea.... I use azithromycin when possible with no tummy upset but if a different AB I always give ondansetron first.

I am so sorry to hear Fritz is not well, Deb. Sending many vines for him.

We are on the first leg of our trip. I took just a quick peak at his labs and I'd twlknto the vet about his low potassium. It could just be the insulin causing the uptake of potassium into the cells, which does occur, but his level seems a lot lower than what I usually see especially since he does not have CKD.

Many many prayers. I hope he will start to eat.

I'm sorry to hear you are struggling with a lung infection with Fritz! He sure likes to keep you on your toes. Paws crossed for Fritz's healing.
