Carol & Murphy (GA)

Member Since 2015
don't even know when I last posted - I buried my Mother on Saturday after two horrible months
I have been letting Murphy go a little higher because I couldn't monitor him that closely

Also, I did a session with an animal communicator and he told her I test him too much and it makes him nervous
He also told her that he thought wet food was bad for him (he had always vomited wet food until I found a few foods he could tolerate) So I've been backing off a bit on testing

It was long planned, and I wasn't sure if I would be able to go, but tomorrow I leave for a 13 day safari - I'm the only not-vet going with a small group of US based feline vets - we're going to do hands on work with some wildlife vets - with rhino, lions, etc. My vet asked a client who lives 2 blocks from me, who had two cats (GA) with chronic pancreatitis and diabetes who agreed to take Murphy in for 13 days (the alternative was boarding him at the vet) I took Murphy over for a visit and he made himself right at home. But I am sweating over a vacation dose and how to ask her to measure it. I use a calipers along with a headlight/magnifier but I don't know if I can ask her to do that. I do have some syringes I can fill with colored water. I was going to go with 1 unit, but of course, Murphy has decided to go high that past few days. I'm afraid it won't be enough. She works so won't be able to test him during the day. I'm also afraid Murphy will bite her when she tests him, as he tries to do with me frequently. I'm trying not to stress too much about this, but it's difficult

Oh Carol.....I am so so sorry for the loss of your Mother. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: I am sending you tons and tons of hugs and love.

I really hope you have a fantastic time on your safari.

Take care of yourself and enjoy your trip. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Carol, no dosing suggestions from me but I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you how sorry I am about your DM's passing. Hope that your trip is good.

Hi Carol - unfortunately my brain is still not working well so I don't feel comfortable offering vacation dose thoughts, but I am so very, very sorry to hear about your Mom. Sending tons of prayers to you and to Murphy, along with many "safe travels" vines :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:.

I am sure others will be along with dosing suggestions....

I'm so sorry for your loss, Carol. I hope that the excitement of your safari will be healing. :bighug:

I'm not sure what to suggest for dosing. He's been on a skinny 1.25 for quite a while with no awful surprises. Maybe fill a reference syringe with coloured water for that dose for the sitter?

Hey Carol, I am so glad you have this trip to go to have some respite and restore.

The dose Murphy is on now has not taken him too low which was good while you were tied up with your mom. I'd be inclined to keep it where it is and when you return you can start bumping him up again to get him into some lower numbers. See what others think.

((Carol)) I'm very sorry to hear the loss of your mother. You are such a wonderful daughter and my prayers are with you. Hopefully this vacation will keep your mind occupied and bring some enjoyment.

As for a vacation dose I'm going with a different thought and suggesting 1u and a no shoot number of 150. A few reasons

- Murphy has appy issues and with you being gone and him a different place, I'd be cautious.
- Food coloring for the 1.25s may be OK but we usually suggest a dose that is on the line for consistency purposes.
- Murphy is not going to be monitored during the day.

Just my 2 cents and you know enough to make the right decision for you both. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Karen has made good points here.

I would encourage you to use a dose that's on one of the lines on the syringe. I'd also check with the person caring for Murphy and ask what she's comfortable measuring and if she'd use the calipers. Otherwise, I'd set up a sample syringe using colored water or send her a close up photo of a syringe that you've loaded with Murphy's dose.

Aside from the one pink AMPS this morning, Murphy has been in yellow and blues at the skinny 1.25 dose. I always dropped Gabby's dose when I traveled -- she wouldn't let anyone, and I do mean anyone, test so my only alternative was to lower her dose. If Murphy is in any way similar, I'd so with your gut and drop the dose to 1.0u.

I agree that a dose on the lines is most likely easier for the sitter. I'm glad you are getting to go on your trip. I hope it helps bring healing. Sending more prayers for you and your family. :bighug::bighug:

Carol, I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom and the all the stress you've been under. It's a wonderful thing that you are able to have Murphy cared for by your neighbor while you get away. If I lived closer I would volunteer!!!
Sounds like an amazing trip and I'm so happy for you that you can go. :bighug:

:bighug::bighug::bighug: i am so sorry you lost you mom.... i know the last few months have been so hard and stressful on you both... prayers for comfort and rest... i hope you are able to enjoy your trip and Murphy stays safe :bighug::bighug::bighug:
