If it's high I just have to wait till tomorrow to shoot right? I'm going out for a bit. He ate well and is rolling around loving every minute of thisYou don't want to push it up with carbs. The idea is to see if he's rising on his own without food influence. Go ahead and stick with no shot tonight but I would still try to get a reading in a couple hours.
Correct, don't shoot later tonight. Just wait until AM time.If it's high I just have to wait till tomorrow to shoot right? I'm going out for a bit. He ate well and is rolling around loving every minute of this
If he's super high in the am I'm going to put a for sale sign on him. We were doing so well!
Me too.Hooray! Another teacher! There are a bunch of us here!
This is awesome! What do you teach? I teach Freshman in college. Sometimes it's worse than Yoshi.Me too.![]()
Hmmm. I need to find out about the test strip thing, I do that sometimes. Not often, just when I don't get blood initially. I think I read it was ok as no blood was on the strip. Bah.

Thoughts?
That's really amazing! I can barely teach native speakers English. I wouldn't even know where to begin with an ESL student.I'm a teacher too! High school physics and chemistry - high school junior/senior as you say in the US or Grade 11/Grade 12 as we say in Canada. I've been retired quite a while and volunteered for 4 years as an "English as a Second Language" tutor to a young Vietnamese woman. I got her English skills up to the level where she could take the Canadian Citizenship exam and I attended her citizenship ceremony. Very proud moment for her - and me!![]()
It was a challenge but she was a very intelligent and motivated young woman. Don't ever let anyone say English is an easy language to learn! I found out that it's absolutely crazy-making for learners and the pronunciation was very difficult for her. She spoke Chinese and Vietnamese and they're both tonal languages. That's really amazing! Kris what do you think I should do with a 132 preshot? It was a challenge but she was a very intelligent and motivated young woman. Don't ever let anyone say English is an easy language to learn! I'd try 0.5 u if you can monitor. You haven't seen any green yet.Kris what do you think I should do with a 132 preshot?
If you're more comfortable giving 0.25 u then that's what you should do.Lol! I'm just scared my vet will yell at me when see sees I'm shooting this low.
I went with .25. I have to eyeball it so it may have been a little less or a little more. Is it bad to jump from .5 to nothing to .25? Or is it worse to skip? I was reading about consistency in dosing and now nervousIf you're more comfortable giving 0.25 u then that's what you should do.He hasn't had insulin in 24 hours and his AMPS is a lovely blue. Go with your gut!
Your situation is a little tricky. He's hovering in near-remission numbers while you've been going between 0 u and 0.5 u. You could try giving a steady 0.25 u for a few cycles to see if anything changes. Some midcycle numbers are important so we can really evaluate a dose. Prozinc is dosed two different ways. The recommended approach is to be as consistent as possible. The second approach is a sliding scale. If consistency isn't working, you try the sliding scale. However, when numbers are low, the sliding scale becomes the necessary approach in order to keep the cat in safe numbers. If you're starting with a number above 250ish, there is a lot more room to stick with the same dose and still be safe. When you're starting with a number around 150 however, you have to use a bit more finesse with the whole thing.
When Sam was moving toward remission (last time I was here), he went from 1u to .75 to .5 to .25 to .1 before going to zero. And there was some back and forth depending on his pre-shot and nadir readings.
Yes, you can.Thank you for this info. His shot time got pushed back about a half hour with all the commotion. Can I go back to my regular shot time tonight?
What would you say the lowest pretest number should be to do the .25? Like what if he's at 120 or something else strange tonight?Your recent SS data shows that 0.5 u lowers BG to low double digits and keeps him there - NS last night. The 0.25 u dose both AM and PM on Apr 14 kept him coasting near the mid 100s. I think you should try 0.25u AM and PM today to see if the data looks like Apr 14. It's possible that the "good dose" right now is between 0.25 u and 0.5 u.
I probably wouldn't shoot under 125. With Alphatrak "normal" cats not on insulin is between 68-150... so really anything under 150 is normal. What would you say the lowest pretest number should be to do the .25? Like what if he's at 120 or something else strange tonight?
Oh wow I had no clue 150 was normal. Thought 68-100I probably wouldn't shoot under 125. With Alphatrak "normal" cats not on insulin is between 68-150... so really anything under 150 is normal.
