Orion had a UA done yesterday. The vet said he has a significant amount of sugar in his urine. Would someone please take a look at his numbers and tell me if this should be the case? Is there a certain glucose level where sugar is no longer present? I thought it was under 300 but perhaps I am wrong.

Every cat is different when it comes to the 'renal threshold'. Dakota starts spilling glucose into his urine at about 230-ish, some do it lower, some do it higher. With my little old man kitty, I'm happy to just be able to keep him under that....

That's how Noah was diagnosed. He's a nervous traveler, was having his teeth checked and peed on the exam table. My vet scooped some up and looked under the microscope, sugar crystals. He wasn't a classic pee a lot/drink a lot like his brother. That's not very scientific but it is "sugar in his urine".

Are you not going to have sugar in your urine if your diabetic?
I should clarify. My vet may have used language she thought I would understand, it was very early stage and Noah had not had his first insulin. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong. That was twice in the same exam room I got that diagnosis (Noah's brother Nigel GA) and my TGN was a lot worse then.
