Day 8 of Basaglar

Well, once again we have a blue PS.....still normal, but still blue!!

I think I'm going to finish out this week with Basaglar so I can say I did it for 2 weeks and gave it a fair shot, but I think I'm going to go back to Lantus

It's not that her numbers are bad....it's just I like how much smoother she is on Lantus without so many ups and downs

Would love any opinions!!

Hope you've had a good Monday and your kitties are feeling great!

Don't forget to plan on coming to the Full Pink Moon party tomorrow!!

Well of course she has to make a liar out of me

But I think she got a little more juice tonight....had an absolutely awful syringe and no matter how many times I second guessed myself, I finally had to give up and shoot something (thus the GOK on the U column....LOL)

I think her numbers look really good too. Maybe she just needed a little longer to get settled into the new insulin or maybe with Basaglar she needs just a little more insulin.

I wonder if you didn't know you were using a different insulin if you would think the same way. I don't see much of a difference. You could plead meter variance just as much as a change to the insulin.

Thank you again for helping all kitties that will benefit from your sacrifice. :bighug:

How much of a difference in price between the two?

How much of a difference in price between the two?

Not a whole lot....about $50 cheaper for the Basaglar compared to 5 pens of Lantus, but several insurance companies aren't covering Lantus at all anymore so we figure it's a matter of time before we start seeing someone here on the message board wanting to use it.

DCIN also is getting donations of Basaglar but before we would consider sending it to any of our clients, we needed to know how it compared and if it was safe and effective in cats since the only testing was with humans.

Human or pet insurance? I didn't know that. Any reason why?

Human....because the insurance companies don't want to pay the price for Lantus I guess ....Good question on Pet insurance though....I don't know anybody right off hand that has pet insurance on their diabetic cat (since most of us don't think about it until after they're diagnosed)

I know a lot of BC/BS policies changed Lantus to a Tier 3: Non-Preferred Drug category from Tier 2: Preferred Drug which meant their co-op went up drastically unless they switched to Basaglar or Levemir

CVS Health changed their policies too https://www.diabetesdaily.com/blog/cvs-drops-lantus-and-replaces-it-with-a-biologic-insulin-294112/
