Hi Lantus Land! :bighug:
Well... I was planing to post on 4/9 with a good AMBG number. It was Tux's 6 months OTJ Anniversary.
Though his AMBG was 162 (AT). :(

When Tux received a vaccine on 3/24, we had a free exam (view and touch) by a vet, and we were told that Tux appeares very healthy, nothing to worry about, don't need further exam.
Tux appears normal to me too... besides he's having sneeze, with occasional yellowish discharge from his nose. (Looks kinda cute. :joyful: Oops sorry Tux...)

Does anyone know if seasonal allergy increase BG?

Would you please look at Tux's SS, and share your thoughts if any?
Thank you! :bighug:

Good question about the allergies increasing the BG's. I don't know the answer to that but, I would imagine since allergens are tacking the immune system that it can cause stress and higher numbers. I hope someone who has experience with allergies and kitties will weigh in.

On 3/24 you have on the SS Flea . Does Tux have fleas now or was that just the treatment ? If there are fleas, that could cause higher numbers as the itching stresses them out. Teeth are good? How is his appy?

Hi Bobbie! :bighug:
"Flea" on 3/24 meant by "Gave flea treatment medication". Somehow my 2017 SS doesn't go two lines when I type longer. So I wrote short.
Tux's teeth are clean. He always have good (way too good ) appy. His fur is smooth, gum is moist, though he is having a little dandruff last two days.

I do believe allergies can play a role. You may want to get a few more tests in over the next few days. If Tux is blue in the morning grab a spot check 3 or 4 hours after feeding to see if he's bringing himself down. IMO anything under 150 on AT is still normal numbers but I'd keep a closer eye for a bit. You can try up to a 1/2 tab of 10mg Zyrtec to see if that helps but would talk to your vet first.

Hi Karen! :bighug: I'm planing to test at PM. Fingers crossed. :nailbiting:

Sometimes Furball has blips where her numbers are higher and I have never figured out why. She eventually comes back down. I wouldn't panic, but keep testing and see if Tux brings his numbers down. Allergies may be enought to raise his numbers. I've used they Zyrtec when my kitties start sneezing. Sometimes it takes a couple of days to help. :bighug::bighug:

Hi Carla! :bighug:
I see you are testing all in PM this year. Furball's numbers are all nice! :cat:
Maybe I should test PM when I am 100% sure Tux didn't eat for two hours prior to test.

By any chance, raw ground chicken neck would increase BG? Tux's become big fan of raw ground chicken neck.

I decided to test in the PM so I don't have to hurry as much in the AM when I'm getting ready for work. I don't know anything about the raw food.

So glad to hear that Tux continues to be healthy! And what a nice PMBG! He comes down so nicely without insulin, maybe he's just a cat that tends to have slightly higher BG than some others. Surf on Tuxedo Surfing Club!

Hi Madrona! :bighug: The Tuxedo boys are strong! :cat::cat:

Do you feed Leda "raw ground chicken neck"? Tux became big fan, and demands for it. Wondering if a bit too much chicken neck is the cause of higher BG. Maybe too much fat or...??? What do you think?

Good to see Tux's numbers came down.

Neko used to get some pieces of raw whole chicken neck. It didn't impact her BG. I'd only give about a 1-1.5 inch segment at once. There's quite a bit of bone in there, and too much bone can cause constipation so you do want to limit the amount. I used to get freeze dried quail neck pieces and both cats went wild for them. Then the manufacturer stopped producing them. :(

Wendy, this is it! :bighug:
Tux takes Miralax every night, but his butt is sticking out today. He is constipated! I didn't know too much bone can cause constipation.
I'll reduce amount.
Will keep Zyrtec for allergy too.

Freeze dried quail neck sounds good! Too bad that the manufacturer stopped making them. :(

Nice to see you Kako!

I would agree that allergies could likely increase blood sugar. You might want to return to weekly tests for this pollen season so you can catch Tux quickly if his BGs do rise.

Take care!

Hi Julie! :bighug: I will do that.

Both allergy and constipation can increase blood sugar. Too much bone can cause constipation.
I learned new things again. :bookworm:
Thank you all! :bighug:

Hi !!! As far as constipation have u ever tried Natural Moves by Pets Alive?? Jayla recommended it to me and it has worked wonders for Elmo. We were having to give enemas ab once a week but since using Natural Moves he goes once to twice a day like clock work. I only have to give 1/8 capsule twice a day tho they suggest starting at 1/4. It has been a God sent for Elmo !!!

Leda loves raw, but he almost always gets boneless meat (I figure at his age the likelihood of needing to be careful of his kidneys is pretty high, so I try to avoid high phosphorus foods). Recently he's just been eating canned, partially because I've been busy, and because I have this silly idea that his BG is more stable with a little more carbs.

I'm glad Tux likes his chicken neck! And probably with a little care he can continue to enjoy it without increasing his BG :cat:

Hi Beth! :bighug:
We've never tried Natural Moves by Pets Alive. I will look for and order it very soon! I'm so happy for you and Elmo for not needing to use enemas anymore!

Hi Again Madrona! :bighug:
Does it mean bone (chicken neck) is a bit high in phosphorus? I have no knowledge on food. Sorry if my question is odd. :p

I'm also trying not to feed Tux high phosphorus. By any chance do you also try to avoid carrageenan? Weruva Cats in the Kitchen Fawl Ball which one of Leda's favorite cans is carrageenan free, so...
Now Tux also eats Weruva Fawl Ball. :cat: What are Leda's favorite cans now?

I too use the Natural Moves too . At first, I gave him 1/2 capsule twice a day ( too much ) and he had soft serve. Now I am just giving him a 1/4 of a capsule each day to help keep him going.

Bones are higher in phosphorus, which is why I use boneless meat when I make raw for Leda. I'm sure that having chicken necks some of the time is fine for Tux as long as he eats other things too (like the tasty Fowl Ball!). I haven't been concerned about carrageenan, but Fowl Ball is still one of Leda's favorites (he also likes Wellness Chicken and Turkey still--and sometimes he eats some Wild Calling Bison)

Thank you Madrona. :bighug: Good to know that bones are higher in phosphorus! I will reduce the amount of chicken neck. Good thing that other food Tux's been eating are lower in phosphorus.
Wellness turkey Tux was crazy about has become his least favorite. :( He is tired of it I guess. He still like Wellness chicken. Now his #1 favorite is Fawl Ball. It smells yummy, doesn't it?
Tux's food is more expensive than my food...
