NOOOOOO! Second fur shot in 3 days. I'm pretty sure the entire thing ended up in his fur this time. I've never given R for anything less than 300, so I'll give it at +4 when he gets his second meal.

They just finished their breakfast and they're licking each other's empty bowls now.

It's hard to tell how much insulin they may have gotten. My FS/ PFS use to come close together too :banghead::banghead: The only good thing about a large depot is it can carry them quite a bit so hopefully Chino will keep it reasonable.

Ooh Adrian!!! Why do you think you are giving so many fur shots? How do you shoot Chino? I know he takes a large dose but maybe some folks here can help you with your technique.

For Ozzy, we get him right when he is eating. He will actually stop, sit back, wait for his shot, and go right back to eating. We are really blessed he takes his shot like a champ. If that was all there was to FD, this would be easy. Only gave one fur shot ever and that was the first week when we were on vestulin. For vestulin, you have to shoot AFTER they eat because it onsets quicker than lantus. It was more difficult chasing Ozzy around the house with a needle to shoot him and he would immediately go hide under the bed.

Now we shoot him while he is eating so I think there is a more positive association with the shot now. We also exclusively shoot in the scruff and shoulder area. I think you vary your shot locations which is probably best in your case because of the large doses you administer. I know there is some controversy over shooting in the scruff only due to absorbtion issues, but we have tried other spots with the same effect except they were much more unpleasant for Ozzy.

Can you describe your insulin administration technique and maybe some others can chime in with some more ideas on ways to help you avoid the dreaded fur shots? I know they are going to happen every once in awhile but we could all use some extra tips now and then.

Very nice AMPS Chino!!

I didn't give R at +8 because I could only monitor for another 2 hours. Religious observance tonight and tomorrow night. We started early, I went back home to test/feed/shoot, went back to my family, then came back for a +2. His BG is plummeting, but he still has a long way to go before he's out of the danger zone.

I opened my last vial of Lantus tonight. Called the new vet for another script and they faxed it to MMP. I'm ordering the pens this time. 1 pen should last approximately 15 days, if nothing is wasted and his dose stays the same.

Before the partial FS from 2 days ago, I went 2 weeks without one. My technique hasn't changed... I do rotate. It doesn't seem to be related to where I inject, since I've done them on the AM and PM cycles, flank and thorax. I pull the fur back until I see skin and place the needle against the skin, then "roll" the section I'm holding so that I'm holding up the area above where the needle will be when I insert it. That way, I know that it's going into skin and not just fur, and it works perfectly most of the time. I honestly don't understand how this keeps happening.

I am sorry. I understand how frustrating fur shots can be. I think some folks have even trimmed the fur in their favorite shot spots on their kitty to help see where the needle is going in.
