Good morning sugar mamas and papas.

I've been noticing a slow down in my old man Melty's behavior, and woke up this morning to find that he had peed on my boyfriends motorcycle helmet (yikes). He tested at 16, so it's looking like we'll be off to the races again.

I'm not sure where/when to start again and would appreciate any advice.

Sending good vibes to all the sugar babies out there <3

bummer. :( Sounds like it's a trip to the vet first. THe numbers could be elevated if there's an infection like a UTI. Find out if that's the case first. If it's a clean bill of health then he's out of remission and will need insulin again.
Have there been any other symptoms? Excessive drinking? increased urination?

Thanks for the reply. :) I have two kitties and I have definitely noticed a slight increase in urinating just in the past week or so. Other than the high numbers, he seems in fairly good spirits.

I'm not off until Tuesday to take him in...do you think that's too late?

I'm sure he will be ok until then. You are still feeding very low carb, right? Of course if it is a UTI you will eventually see him straining or meowing when he goes.... so just be observant and take some readings that you can show your vet when you do go. time to dust off that spreadsheet. sorry

:( I will keep an eye on him when he heads for the litter box in the meantime and restart my spreadsheet tonight.

Thanks for the direction. I really appreciate it.

Still feeding low card Merricks pate wet food with just a tiny bit of Origin Cat and Kitten dry (same combo I used when he went OTJ)

I keep the dry food in the rotation because the little lady (Aggie) needs it for reoccurring gingivitis issues. If I have to remove I can separate her for her dry food, but I'd hate to do that to my boy. He loves his tiny amount of dry food.

If nothing else has changed it makes me wonder why he's suddenly back in high numbers. Have them check for all infections, uti, dental, ect.

I will definitely push checking for any infections when I talk to the vet on Tuesday.

The only thing that has changed is that he has gained back a bit of his pre-diabetes weight. No where near where he was before but still on the fluffier side haha

Welcome back :bighug:. A welcome nobody looks forward to receiving from here:(. If he is out of remission, you at least had a very nice lengthy one :cat: and it can happen again :)

Things went okay at the vet today, but he tested at 23 on the vet's Alphatrak meter (could have been inflated significantly by the car ride and the fact that there was a very large dog in the waiting room lol)

The vet said he couldn't test for a UTI without a sample, so I've got a sample syringe and bottle incase he has another accident on the floor.

Felt a little discouraged digging out the glucometer this evening, but my old man still comes to the sound of the zipper. Just anot her reminder that I am lucky.

Much love to all the sugar kitties and sugar mamas and papas. <3
