My vet gave me 3 days of Lantus, in a few syringes. I just picked up my own. I saw that it says you shouldn't pre-fill with Lantus. Should I throw them away? Or is it ok? I got them Monday morning.

I would throw them away. He shouldn’t be doing that anyway.

If you bought the insulin, I’d just use what you bought and toss the pre-filled ones. You are correct....you should not pre-fill syringes with Lantus.

I wouldn't want to pre-fill a syringe an hour or two early. The syringes have a coating of lubricant inside the barrel to make the plunger slide easily. The lubricant can contaminate the insulin if the insulin comes in contact with it for an extended period of time.

In her defense, she said, I would recommend a diabetes specialist and I declined. She warned me that she wasn't very knowledgeable. But she's the only vet around and I love her honesty.
