AMPS 139

Not sure if I should be concerned but he is not eating mid cycle snacks. When he eats - he will eat all of the snack but just doesn't seem hungry (lower numbers?).

He was playful last night. The boy needs to poo again - nothing since overnight 04/03. SEB added to AMPS meal this morning. But I guess if he isn't eating as much - he wont poo as much.

He has been eating his PS meals and numbers not dipping into danger zone. IDK.

Hope everyone has a good day. :bighug:

Nice start for Gizmo. I hope he surfs safely today. When Furball first got into good numbers, she didn't eat as much as she did before. Their bodies process food better and they don't need as much.

:)

My brain knows this but my mama heart hasn't caught up yet. Still worry.

I really don't know how much he should be eating. I think PFD (pre-feline diabetes) he was just eating 2-3oz cans per day but too much time has passed and I just don't remember.

It's hard to make that adjustment. Do you weight Gizmo? I just made sure Furball was eating enough to maintain her weight. She showed me how much was good for her to eat.

When Bubba is constipated, he won't eat all of his food, leaves a couple tsp......just did that a couple of days ago for a few days.

As far as how much should he be eating: I use this formula, The cat's weight times 13 and add 70. So a 10 lb cat X 13=130 +70=200 . This is a good formula for weight maintenance . If Gizmo needs to gain weight, put the weight he should be in the formula and the same for if he has to lose weight, use the ideal weight he should be in the formula.

What Is the "200"? Calories? Grams? He has maintained 11.2#'s from Nov 2016 - Feb 14 2017. Vet said he was good but wouldn't mind if he gained 1-1-1/2 #'s. Not sure I want him to because of the arthritis but he could stand to gain a bit.

The 200 would be calories, sorry, I didn't clarify that. I understand that you wouldn't want to put more weight on him because of the arthritis. Have you seen the body chart for cats? I am not sure that I saved it but I think it is in one of the stickies.

Have you seen the body chart for cats
No. I will try and look for it today. Starting a new long term project at work. Not thrilled about it as I already did this project 10 years ago and the person that took it over did not maintain it. :banghead: It is not a fun project and I hated it the first time did it.

We are also having the siding (entire outside) of the house done this week. They delivered the materials yesterday and starting the work today. Going to be noisy for Gizmo for the rest of the week.

That would cause Bronx to stay under the bed all day, hopefully Gizmo gets used to the noise.
He will watch all the happenings from the back window. Noise doesn't bother him and he is a very social cat. He will race me to the front door when someone knocks. He sat in the window last night and watched them unload/stack all the materials. He survived the entire house being re-plumbed and he was have a panc flare. We just hold up in the master bedroom for two days.

Completely confused with the calories.

How are these calories calculated? The numbers are from Tanya's site here:

However when I go to the websites they list calories (or kcal) by can size:

How do these compare?

That is weird with the list from Dr. Lisa. Her values seem way too low, her values must be by the ounce. Yep, I just did the math and that is what it is. Weird because her last chart was by the can size.

Bobbie's weight formula works well but Sr. kitties and those with things like arthritis and diabetes..leaner is better. If Gizmo has been the same weight for that long it's probably a good weight for him. Doodles IM vet used 15 calories per lb as he's ideal weight. I unfortunately ended up feeding him more than he should because I just didn't feel Doodles was healthy at 15 lbs and he preferred to be 18 lbs anyway.

Watch his eating and trust your gut. Eat your fuds Gizmo and surf safely.

I agree about the arthritis and not wanting to put more weight for their joints. The formula I use has worked for us for maintenance.

That sounds like Jack.... We had a plumbing leak in the kitchen, had to cut an access panel in wood, cut out copper pipe and replace... Jack was laying next to me while the saw was going just watching curiously at what the bean was doing half in a cabinet....

Good job behaving Giz... You needed to give the bean a little break from the recent antics. All those blues and greens look so pretty!

I don't even have human scales
I want to see pics of Gizmo at the produce stand... "Ma'am do you need some bananas? Nope just weighing the cat":D:D

Is that for a 24 hr period
Yes and she thought 15lbs was a healthy weight for Doodles. I didn't agree but did try to keep his calories to around 250/260 per day to keep him around 17lbs. At his heaviest unhealthy weight he was a 22 lb cat, at diabetes dx he was 14.5lbs. We kept him at 16/17lbs for a long while but ultimately he creped back up to the 18lb mark which wasn't good for him.

They took out all of the galvanized pipes and replaced everything from the entry into the house all the way to the faucets with pek(?). They used saws-alls to cut out the old pipes (along with a bunch of the sheetrock, 2-story house). It was quite noisy.

Gizmo was quite helpful to the electrician when he was working on the wiring. He would even climb the ladder to get a better view.

Really pleased with where he is right now. Maybe a tad lower but I am ok with it for now.

That isn't a bad idea actually!:D

15#'s would probably be an ideal weight for Gizmo. Pre FD (and pre pancreatitis) he was 17-18#'s but I will be happy to just hold him where he is right now.

The contractor text me a while ago of the back of the house with all the windows out! I freaked. I txt back and told him "don't let the cat out" - he replied "oh, I forgot about the cat!" OMG. I about had a heart attack. We have decided to go ahead and replace a few of the windows that are in bad shape. Going to have to figure out what to do with him for the rest of the week. Meanwhile, they put the windows back temporarily.

Sounds like Gizmo is feeling pretty good if he is climbing ladders! Nice to see he has confidence in the back legs.

Nice flat cat day for Gizmo, I'm jealous...
Guess since you tested him he didn't have time to escape from the missing windows:D

'+4.5=62

He is refusing to eat. He hasn't eaten anything since PS. He acts hungry but not interested (if that makes sense).

Surely you have a syringe if needed? He's safe for now and will hopefully surf.
We were having battles of the wills. I finally broke down and sprinkled Bonito Flakes on top and he has proceeded to lick the bowl clean. :banghead: Gizmo-1 Mama-0 :banghead:

I was really trying to leave it alone because it has become a tension between us. I hadn't pushed it because it seems he resists the more I stress. And, because I needed to know how low he would go IF he did this and no one was home (which he doesn't and that leads me back to my stress being the issue).

I knew I could get him to est.

They always win:rolleyes:. In my book, eating is most important, more so then what they should eat. Right, wrong, or indifferent that's my stance. Glad he ate and hope he continues to surf.

Just trying to nip a bad habit before it takes a firm hold. He can't do this. Not when I have to work. Changing up his food tomorrow, that usually works for a while.
