Not a good morning over here. Last night it looked like Uncle was breaking a bounce and I was going to check him one more time at +9 but I slept through my alarm. He might have dropped too low because I woke up to this AMPS number.
He had a loose stool and then some diarrhea with what looked like a tiny bit of blood in it. Not much of an appetite, but just enough to get his insulin.
I don't know what to do for him because I don't have much experience with loose stools. Hoping I can wait till tomorrow to call the vet for advice. I am hoping it was just from the bupe, but IDK he hasn't had it for 48 hours...

Hey Barb and sorry that Uncle isn't feeling well. It was my experience that the Bup causes constipation not diarrhea. Have you ever used Slippery Elm Bark? That is what I use when Bubba has a GI flare up and also, I have had great success with Florastor, it's Saccharomyces boulardii probiotic ( I got it at CVS) It was wonderful to stop the diarrhea .. The dose is 1/2 capsule twice a day and then do a maintenance dose of 1/4 capsule 2 X day for a few days after the diarrhea stops. The SEB helped to sooth the gut and help him feel better. I had such a good result with it.

Instead of the Florastor, you can get Jarrow which is a S. Boulardii too, much cheaper than the Florastor brand but MOS is added to it and makes it bitter and you would have to pill Uncle. The Florator can be added in the food without detection. You would need to separate the SEB 2 hours from any other medication as it can prevent absorption.

One other thing, the Florastor capsules at CVS run around 50 bucks for 50 capsules and online you can find for much cheaper but I did not want to wait for them to arrive. I will order online when my bottle gets low.

Anything different to eat recently? The S. Boulard. and plain chicken is what we do. I hope it clears up for you today and Uncle gets his appy back.

LOL...just noticed that Taffy and Uncle have same exact AMPS today and about same time, too. (Taffy had same yesterday, as well.)

Tricia would get a kick outta that!
I REALLY hope Taffy doesn't follow suit for the rest of the day. Uncle's +2.5 is really high, I had to feed him Weruva 21% at shot time, it's the only thing I could get him to eat :(

Thanks Bobbie, I will get some Florastor today. I have only used SEB for myself (sore throats), but one of my good friends is an herbalist and I can run over to her shop and get some. It will be bulk and not in a capsule.

I switched him over to RadCat two weeks ago and I was really happy because he stopped needing pumpkin and/or Miralax. Now I'm wondering if it's loosening his stools too much. So confused and nerves shot from constant worry :banghead:

The SEB would be about 1/4 tsp. of the powder in the food. Some make a slurry with it and hot water and let cool and syringe it into the cat's mouth but, I didn't have to do that with Bubba.

You will want to use it a minimum of 3 days beyond when the diarrhea stops.

I can relate. Fingers and Paws crossed for good success with the SEB and the Florastor. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Aw...sorry he is stressing you out!! I fed RC for a long time, mainly turkey and sometimes chicken. But once they started the High Pressure Processing, Taffy started having recurring digestive issues and, in fact, it is what he was eating at FD Dx and I continued to feed this for another month or so. Finally, I had to admit that it was not working for us. Although HPP is supposed to leave the nutritional values the same, I believe that it kills natural enzymes, for one thing, and this makes it less digestible. This is why I went back to making my own with organic poultry and game birds. I am hoping to order some back up like Darwin's or something, but I have to inquire if they HPP their poultry and if so, I won't order.

Sending Uncle tummy settling vines :bighug::bighug::bighug:

If he's feeling under the weather, that might explain the numbers, hope they start to come back down.

Prayers and vines for Uncle to feel better soon. :cat:

My civvie Candy has IBD so I am good friends with s.boulardii and SEB! Both work really well to help stop diarrhea. I tried the SEB slurry on Candy first, she did not like it and it didn't seem to help a lot, so I switched to just mixing the powder into her food and it worked wonders. When she has a flare now I use both the s.boulardii and SEB in concert with each other and it clears her diarrhea up in just a couple of days (this is the cat who had constant diarrhea for over a year, when I first got her, went through all kinds of changes, foods, meds, supplements, you name it, until I hit on this mix for her).
