All set for dose increase this am, and she shocked me with AMPS 107. All I could think of is she's low (lately she's been in pinks and a few reds so 107 is low for her) so feed her. She ate about 1 tsp when I thought stall dummy, stall, retest. Is the tsp or so enough to mess that up?

My guess is the pros here will say you can shoot soon.

I was going to increase her to 1.25U after testing. I knew she was either really high or low, because of how she was acting, but would have bet money (and I don't bet money) that she was high. The 107 was a real surprise. Then the testing strips (I must have bought a bad batch kept reading E-7 or E-6). So after using 5 strips and 6 pokes (oh, she's real happy with me this morning) to get one good test, the 107 popped up.
My guess is the pros here will say you can shoot soon.

Thanks, Kris, for responding. I'm going to test again in a second and hope I don't get another bad strip. I'm probably doing something wrong, but I'm doing the same as usual but having trouble with it.

She's coming down from a bounce and it will probably be an active cycle whether you shoot the increased dose, regular dose, BCS, or skip. I hope you will be home today to test and have lots of supplies on hand. I think because you don't want to put extra momentum behind the already active cycle, that you should shoot the 1.00 this morning (as long as you are going to be home), and maybe do the increase tonight. Those are just my thoughts. Others may have said to just do the increase since Lantus has flatter curves when shooting at a low pre-shot number.

How often do I have to test if I shoot? With it that low, I can't increase. I am more of BCS person than a BOS person. Thanks so much for response. And yes, I will be home today.

I would start with a +1 and a +2 and probably get at least a +3. It depends on how the numbers are going. I would want to be able to test until nadir.
Stalling reduces the depot a little, plus as soon as you feed her the food will help to keep her numbers up. If you want to do a BCS that's up to you. You hold the syringe. I believe she will need to be tested until nadir even if you skipped the shot because she has the depot of insulin in her and she's on her way down from a bounce.

The 107 and the 99 are basically the same number giving the 20% meter variance. So she is staying flat at the moment.

With this amps I would not increase tonight. I'd continue the 1.0 as there may be a bounce again. You will likely need that increase but if the strips have been bad I'd hate to increase when a bounce clears. Just my thoughts though.

Thanks, Dyana. She's eating right now. And then I'll do the 1U, and test at +1 and so on. I can't figure out her nadir so it's going to be a test day.

Okay, I shot a 99. Do I get some kind of award or something? I think we should get an award for shooting low. I am just teasing, btw. :D Hoping she doesn't go low.:nailbiting:

Elise, we were going to name our first child Elise, but he turned out to be a Heath, but love the name. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

Even though they're basically the same, isn't it strange how a certain number just seems so much lower or higher? Thanks for your help!

Love it! Thank you, thank you! :smuggrin:I am accepting the BOS award with bows, thanks, and laughs. :D She was hiding. We ripped the cloth bottoms off of 2 couches, but still don't know where she was hiding. We finally found her on a chair in the kitchen where she wasn't 2 seconds earlier, and she has the gall to look at me as if I'm crazy for being all atwitter. Then I got a text, and after testing and finding she was okay, I had to leave for 20 minutes, but back now.

Since she's going up, I may wait till +3 to test, if you think that would be okay. Thanks so much for advice to shoot. I wouldn't have been able to without support, and she would be zooming soon. :)

+2.5 or +3 will be fine. Part of the 165 is the food spike.
+3 263 What do you think about next test? I am one of those that dread testing. I so wish I wasn't, (but I am) but I will do what I have to do to keep her safe, and I'm trying to figure out if I need to raise her dose. Okay, I went back and read your testing advice in previous post so I'll test periodically.

It was hard for me to test in the beginning too. I hated it. J.D. was diabetic for 9 years, so we got used to it. He was great about testing and so patient.

I think you can hold off until +5 or +6 now, if you want. If she's still climbing after the next test, then you can give her a break until PMPS. If you want to post her +11 if you get one, you can ask for people's opinions about raising the dose then. I am now a little on the fence about raising Callie's dose since she did just get a green finally on this dose. Let's see what others have to say.

Yep, hating it would be an accurate gauge of my feelings. 9 years! Wow! That is awesome that you had so much perseverance. Callie is the sweetest, most mellow cat I have ever had, but she does NOT like the testing or the shots. She comes to the island where we test, feed, and shoot, but she occasionally gets disgusted and then hides or sidles away, sometimes even growling. Just not her. So glad your JD was good about it.

I will hold off on testing till +5 or +6 as you suggested and then do the +11 or just the PMPS, post and see what the consensus is. Yes, I just repeated everything you said. I was reviewing it. LOL Thanks for understanding about hating testing.

So +6 232. Dropping a bit. I'd rather hold off on testing till PMPS unless necessary. But if she needs it, of course, I will test.

Here is your last post here: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/...233-4-156-6-151-8-205-10-245-amps-365.175254/ included for continuity.

Looks like Callie responded well to the dose increase threat. :) On SLGS you continue to hold the dose if you see nadirs under 150. And congrats on shooting the low (for you) number today. That's a huge milestone.
Yep, she did, didn't she?! I will threaten her with dose increase threats more often if that will get her the lower numbers. Thanks! Yeah, did you see I got my BOS award? I want it framed to hang on my wall. :D Just thankful it didn't go low because I would have had to give it back since I am such a chicken.

Everyone is nervous the first time they shoot low.:bighug: It's great she did it on a weekend so you could see what happens when you do shoot lower. Of course, we hope that over time she won't bounce right away. Which is what Neko did too.

I would bet she bounces, but I guess we'll see. I just appreciate everyone's support through all of these ups and downs. :) :bighug:
