Nothing really dramatic going on. He ate everything in sight for 2 days and then didn't eat much yesterday. Will watch that and see if he needs a push to eat. He is super cuddly and DH says he has been running around more being his usual prick self and picking on his sisters.

Numbers are a little lower and more green in the last few days. Hope that continues.

Still working on the raw food diet research. I have gone through what he is on now for canned, what are possibilities for canned that have been suggested, supplements to use with raw food diets (talked with hubby about buying a grinder...that was resounding no until I can prove they will eat said diet), available frozen food (both meal, just meat) and compared that all to his allergy results. Some interesting results. Some ingredients I just didn't know how to colour code (lettuce?). Still looking at other options as well. In the end, I believe I will end up with a ground meat, liver and organ of some type (as poultry and rabbit is not the optimum options) and add in the required supplements. I have looked at two sites for recipes - Dr. Lisa's and TCFeline. Was going to compare just to make sure I understand what is needed to ensure dietary needs.

I have also been observing what each cat likes for texture. I cooked up some buffalo/beef and been putting it out in a bowl as a general treat. Just to see if they would eat something that isn't processed like canned food. Watching who eats it, what size nugget do they pick etc.

Safe surfing everyone!

At 52 I'd be feeding higher carb food as well. Just when it looks like a boring day, surprise! Glad the DS was able to catch the 52, keep an eye on those numbers, still a bit to go for the typical lantus nadir. I'd have the DS test again in 30min to make sure Jones is coming up and not hovering around 50 or below.

Hope the food experiment goes well, I never thought cat food could get so complicated, especially with finicky eaters.

higher carb food
I guess DS panicked and gave some honey as well as Jones wouldn't eat. Which is ok, I would of tried the food first but I guess DS is in charge and doing what he feels is right then checking in. Looks like we got a big bump from both of those.

Yeah, DS came home early with a migraine...well there you go! I guess we are losing 1 more drop. Will be nothing in the syringe soon.

ETA - DS testing in an hour. That is usually when he nadir's. He is really not into food lately. I think he is bored again.

The honey gives a quick bump in numbers, but doesn't last very long. At a 52, I would recommend some MC or a little HC food unless Jones is very carb sensitive. There is not much room under 50 before the situation starts getting concerning. Keeping track of what you fed to bump up the numbers can help in the future when you face a similar situation. Hopefully that will get Jones past his nadir and he can surf nicely in some mid greens for the rest of the day!

I had to train my sitter to check in first and then act. They have just enough knowledge to be dangerous. Unless numbers are low and they can't reach me they should wait to hear back. This dance is constantly changing and our kitties love to pull random stunts that require a quick change in plans sometimes. What worked last week, just might not work this week.

He seems to be more carb sensitive now then when we first started. He did receive some 13% (a tsp) with the honey, so it is a good bump. Just checked in with DS and he said Jones was sleeping and stopped meowing. I wish I could be home all the time to test but that isn't an option. It was just nice he checked (he will usually only do 1 test a day for me so it was nice to get the second one).

They seem to, just when you feel your at a certain spot - WHAM - the slap comes out of nowhere.

Since DS is unlikely to test again, it would be a good idea to ask him to give a little more food after an hour or so - in case the MC and honey wear off and Jones decides to head for the deep end again.

You realize now that you were asking for trouble with the first line of your condo, don't you? :p

When you get home, you might change your subject line to ask for feedback on your food situation, if it was help you were seeking. You certainly are going the extra mile to figure out what is best to feed your picky little guy! Food allergies add a whole new meaning to the term "finicky cat"!

Good catch DS! Hope his migraine is better soon.

I found a new raw food yesterday, called Pets4Life. They are in Ontario but sell in Alberta too. They have a duck option which I'm interested in because that's one of the ones the civie can eat and it's hard to find as a raw option. I haven't tried it yet. It's a nice texture, sort of like pieces of ground that you can break off and thaw just a little bit to try. Unfortunately it contains bones so you can't cook it. Theo will just pick them out.

Yes, lesson learned! I am not worthy, I am not worthy.

give a little more food
DH is now home from therapy and will being his usually poke of lets have a snack through out the afternoon until 330PM.

if it was help you were seeking

I am still gathering data (accountant in me) and want to firm up on what my options are in regards to allergies. I guess I am just kind of stuck on "what" recipe to use if I end up getting the meat/organ mix and just want to add my own supplements. This is where I will end up I think as his allergies always seem to hit on 1 red zone item and 2-3 yellow zone items. There are differing opinions on what that should be included and what you can sub and what you can't. Just a little confusing.

Thanks Wendy, I will take a look.
