Timmy is 101 at +4. I'm not sure if I should give him a snack now, or wait until he really needs it to get the numbers up. I know this is a good thing, but it is sooooo stressful!!!

I suggest a small snack of his regular low carb wet food, Susan. Dry can take longer to affect BG. Save the high carb intervention for when he's at 50 or below. This is a nice blue but I know that Vetsulin can take them low. That's why I'm suggesting the snack. As you get more experience with these numbers you can try letting him ride it out.

I definitely will. It had been 20 minutes, so before the snack I tested him and he was 96. He is eating a bit now. He picks right now to become picky with the food, got him to eat though.

He is 193 at +6. I'll do one more test at +6.5 just to be safe. What number, before the lime green, should I start steering with a bit of LC food? I just don't have enough confidence yet in my ability to steer with food and I panic.

Thank you for walking me through this today. :)

Looks good. Re when to steer with food: like so many things, it depends. If a test at, say, +2/3/4, shows a big drop in BG (like your 200+ points drop today by +4) you'd want to give a snack to keep him from diving more. If you test and find the BG is uncomfortably low but above 50 and he hasn't reached nadir yet, you might give a snack. So much depends on knowledge of your kitty's patterns over time as well as going through these situations, trying something and seeing how it works. It's a good idea to note all the snacks (type of food and amount) in the comments section of the SS.
