Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about her 1U dose. We are doing SLGS. I haven't tested her today since her AMPS, and I'd rather not. Even with all the treats and extra love, and me (honestly remaining calm) she really dislikes testing. She was actively resisting me by morning, but we got it done. She seems to feeling pretty good. I go through this question about dose amount every few weeks. LOL I guess I just want someone to tell me she's doing okay, but if not to tell me what to do. I know with the SLGS protocol, it says to hold the dose if she is down to 150, and with it being so close, (151 and 156) I just thought I'd check in for feedback.

I also have a question about holding her shot next weekend for hopefully just one night. My granddaughter is involved in a voice contest about 8 hours away, and the time is right over shot time. Of course! So we're taking Callie since we'll be gone over the weekend. And then the next evening of the same weekend, she has an album release party, hopefully over by shot time, but I kind of doubt it. I've tried to figure backing up the shot time or taking it forward, but with the scheduled activities, I just don't see how it can work. Any thoughts or advice? Thanks in advance. Neither of these things are emergencies, so just whenever...

Good job getting curve done when she dislikes the testing so much. But, you know it's for her own good to keep her safe and that said, I would definitely get some more tests in today especially at +6 to see how low she goes. From yesterday's curve, it does look like she needs more insulin but with out more test in the days prior to that curve, I can't say positively and since you got a partial fur shot the night before last, the depot has been disrupted some.

As far as next week goes it is too soon to tell what to do about the conflicting time and dose, so post a few days before the event and ask for some guidance.

I was gone for +6. I'll do a +8 which isn't the same at all, but I will get a +6 tomorrow. Yeah, the PFS was so weird! The needle was under her skin as much as usual and it just oozed right back out. Thanks so much for your input.

With SLGS, you would technically increase as her nadirs are not generally below 150. She got close, but not quite. I think she could use a little more juice.

As for next weekend, you could always skip and call it a fur shot. :p How close is the voice contest to the shot time? I have a monthly meeting that starts at 7PM and shot time was 7:30. Including travel time, I wanted the shot an hour earlier so I would gradually move the time up over the week. What you could do the following day is then start moving the shot time later. If the album release party runs late, you could just shoot later and make up the time the following week. It's best to think about options now, so you have time to move the shot if you need to. Last year I had a race where I needed to be out of the hotel at 6:00 AM - that meant moving the shot up over even a longer period of time. It's all doable with a little planning. As long as shots are at least 11.5 hours apart you should be OK.

The voice contest is at the same time as her shot time, but we need to leave at least 45 minutes earlier, and they were talking about going to dinner before that. I figured the contest would last at least an hour and half, probably two. I was writing times down trying to figure it out, but I just don't see how it might work unless I leave Callie in the suburban and leave to care for her. I think she would be terrified though. Even the trip down is going to be hard on her. The next day the party is going to be at 5pm so there is a chance I can get back to do her 7pm shot. Or I can be a little late. I think I'm going to have to skip her Saturday pm shot, and maybe be a little late with her Sunday pm shot, if necessary.

I think I will wait to increase her dose a bit until after next weekend, if she needs an increase. I hate to do that if she needs it, but I can't do hypos with all of this coming up. (Well, I don't think I have the guts to do hypos ever, and I don't want to find out.) I don't want to increase and then decrease. Thoughts? Tomorrow I will do a +6 as Bobbie suggested. A few weeks ago she was getting in the 120's so we'll see what happens, but she's been back up to pinks and a few reds recently.

You've had some creative juggling to do with your schedule. Good job! And thanks for your input. :bighug:

She's been on the 1U dose for quite a while. I'd be a little worried about glucose toxicity setting in and Callie getting used to the numbers she's seeing. It's fine to increase for a week to try to get better numbers, then reduce down again for the weekend. Did it many a time myself to avoid prolonged stays in higher numbers.

Yes, I've been worrying about that. I love the 1u dose for some reason. (I am WEIRD) But if it's not enough, it's not enough. It's good to know it's okay to raise it and lower it like that. Thank you so much!

Okay, so I will do a +6 to see where she is. Her AMPS was 421. (Red and pink!:arghh:) If it's not under 150, then I'll up her to 1.25U tomorrow morning. What do you think? I would start the dose increase tonight, but after only sleeping 1 1/2 hours the night before with the night curve I don't think I'd be safe taking care of her if her numbers went down. I don't sleep all that much anymore, but I'm also not to be trusted sometimes.

We found out the album party is at 5 and lasts only an hour so that should work out okay unless they want to go out to dinner. I'm offering to bring food to maybe preclude that so we'll see. My daughter-in-laws family will also be there and they're lovely people, but it complicates things a bit. They aren't animal people at all. (Could not believe we allowed our dog in the house. So they really are not going to understand caring for a diabetic cat. I don't need their approval at all, but I just don't want to bring any attention to the situation.) Rambling again...;) Thanks again for your input. So through all of the rambling and verbosity, do you think that will work?

Okay, +6 is 301. I never have figured out her nadirs, but this is high mid-cycle so I should go ahead with the dose increase (to 1.25U) tomorrow am? I don't know what has happened or why she was doing okay and numbers are now going up? :confused:o_O Thanks in advance for insight or advice...

Re not being able to shoot on schedule for a day: I have one of those coming up on April 8 in the evening. I like to keep things as simple as I can and will skip that shot - a fur shot would result in the same.

Thank you. I am thinking that will be the best thing for the situation and for Callie that night. I hope your evening of not being able to shoot is for a fun thing. :bighug:
