Dear girls,

Things are going to start to get difficult. Yesterday I stay over mom´s house, as she is not really well. So that meant that I skipped Markies 5 AM dose.

Wen I came back at 1.30 PM I gave him his dose. BG wasn´t bad at all, but then his curve was flat on 300s. I have some questions about his.

1. When I skip a dose, the insulin deposit drains completely that´s why then the numbers stay high because the deposit is filling again? (kind of a childish question) Or may be, could you please help me understand that flat numbers after skipping the dose?

2. And most important for me. I need to have a contingent plan for this new period. I will start to stay over at mom´s house much more frequently. She needs me there at her house. So, there are a couple of things I can do.
a. change dosing schedule so I don´t need to skip and for example shoot at 8 am and 8 pm (which will be hard since I will have to wake up early to shoot and then go to bed again, but I will have to make that effort for my boy) and then manage food intake while Im gone with canned whiskas and also maybi reducing the dose to feel a little safer (I don´t want to leave him in separate rooms, there is not much space and I have 4 cats at home, I could leave frozen canned whiskas only to Markies but that will mean that I will have to leave Markies locked in the bedroom wich he is not accustomed or in the balcony, which is worse or whatever.. don´t like to leave him by his own. This part is difficult.

b. changing the schedule and making a 18 hours schedule as I used to do when dad was hospitalized.

c. anything you suggest me.

Please dears, help me with this. My brain is hardly working. (@Chris & China I remember you help me with this at times of dad sickness)

Thank you.

Hi Slivi.

I'm sorry your mother isn't doing well. I'm sure this is especially difficult, so soon after losing your father. :bighug:

It really would be best for Markies if you could find a way to shoot the same dose every twelve hours. Skipping shots makes for all kinds of wonkiness, and it's hard to tell what he's doing.

When you skip a shot, the depot begins to drain, to use the insulin that he didn't get from the syringe. The depot wouldn't drain completely from one skipped shot, but you will lose some benefit from the next few shots as that insulin goes to fill the depot back up.

Isolating Markies might be upsetting for him, but unless you think he won't eat when he's confined, it might be the best plan to insure he gets only his food and no one else eats it, while you are not there to monitor him. Are the other cats eating a food that isn't good for him, or are you concerned they will eat his?

I hope that your mother starts to feel better and that you have less stress from the whole situation. My heart goes out to you.

Silvina - I am sorry you are going through tough times again with your mother. :bighug:

When you skip a dose, the depot does not drain completely. As Tricia says, a 12 hours schedule would be best, even if it means getting up a little earlier for a while. If you leave out a lot of food for everyone, do you think there would still be some there for Markies if he needs it, or would the other cats eat it up all at once? If you have a large room for Markies, and it has something in there that smells of you, he might be fine being on his own for a while. He's probably going to be sleeping a lot of that time anyway.

Dear, my mom goes down and there is no back... that´s why Im trying to prepare. May be Im preparing too soon but since I have my father´s experience in my head, I just don´t want surprises and I want to be prepared.

If I leave food, the others will eat it. I think I will have to leave him in a separete room. Its just that this time I have this foster cat and this complicates things. Carlitos can´t be put together with the foster cat and Markies either because he will eat Markeis food and if I put the foster cat together they will fight each other too much.. or may be not.. I may need to try. I don´t think they will kill each other though.

I will have to make that big effort and change the shooting time. to 8am/8PM and that´s it.

Thank you.

So sorry things are so difficult. Many hugs and vines to you and Markie.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom.

Is there any possibility that you can bring Markies with you when you are at your mom's?
you read my thoughts! that´s a possibility.
I know that he will feel very stressed since car ride wills stress him and sleeping over in another house will stress him too. But he knows that hose, its not completely new. And I can have him with me and mom and the other cats out, there is not much problem. Thats a possibility. :)
