Thanks for checking in on him, Carla. It IS a nice start... but he just wants to stay slightly in the blue, every day, which means no trial off of insulin.Nice start for Chase. I hope he keeps surfing safely today.
He may still get there. Thanks for checking in on him, Carla. It IS a nice start... but he just wants to stay slightly in the blue, every day, which means no trial off of insulin.I just wish there was something I could do to poke that pancreas just enough to get him to stay in the green. I can't give more insulin, I guess, because his numbers are too low to increase.
I know its frustrating, especially seeing others go OTJ so quickly, but as people keep saying, its a marathon, not a sprint. Thanks, Cass.He may still get there.I know its frustrating, especially seeing others go OTJ so quickly, but as people keep saying, its a marathon, not a sprint.
Well it seemed to work for Boomer because his AMPS was always higher than I liked. But ECID as we all knowThank you, Judy. It's been so much trial and error with his food and I'm willing to try that. His +9 snack seems to do a lot of good for him. I spread his food out so evenly, though. And I did recently cut back on the amount of the snack because I found that I was giving him what I thought was too much for a snack. I put ice cubed food down, but the other day I found that an ice cube compartment holds SIX teaspoons of food. LOL. So I took it down to 2. I'm going to up it again and see what happens. Thank you so much. I didn't even think of that.![]()
Isn't there cooking involved? I mean... how can an animal eat raw meat without the possibility of salmonela?Sometimes there is just a blip. Try not to worry unless we start to see a trend.
It looks like Bed, Bath, and Beyond no longer carries the digital scale I have. It I paid about $20 for it and they have several others. They also have a pocket digital scale which is good for weighing small, light weight things like the EZ Complete powder. It's probably just as easy for you to get them both at the same place and as I said, I have coupons you can have.
Normally cats in the wild would eat raw meat; their bodies aren't susceptible to bacteria like ours are.Isn't there cooking involved? I mean... how can an animal eat raw meat without the possibility of salmonela?
Oh wow. I didn't realize that. But mostly because Chase has never eaten the things that animals do, in the wild. I would think that would have some kind of impact on their digestion. But I guess when you convert them to raw, you do it very slowly.Normally cats in the wild would eat raw meat; their bodies aren't susceptible to bacteria like ours are.
Well, he used to eat fancy feast. Then his levels started going up and there were rumours that Purina had changed their formulas so I switched him. Now there are two Purrfect Bistro foods and two Wild Callings foods that he eats.....but he's being very needy at night and requires us to get up and put treats on his food even though I put treats on it before I go to bed. So I'm thinking of switching him back to fancy feast because it ended up not being the fancy feast that caused him to come out of remission.Oh wow. I didn't realize that. What does Boomer eat?
Thank you for sharing that with me. If Chase seems to do ok on the new flavor of FF that I'm giving him, I may keep him on it for a while. I know that other foods are more expensive and if I can, I'd rather save my money to get his teeth cleaned. He's NEVER had that done, and I need to do it before his teeth get too bad. The vets have always said that he's only had mild tarter, and that maybe because he's always eater dry food. But now that dry food is not in the equation, I am seeing his teeth looking a little yucky.Well, he used to eat fancy feast. I feed my two cats raw and add the EZ Complete to the raw ground chicken and turkey. I use a little scale Escali to weigh out each portion. I found it in a kitchen store for around 24 bucks.Isn't there cooking involved? I mean... how can an animal eat raw meat without the possibility of salmonela?
Wow! So many different stories. I know that Bubba has been knocked out of remission more than once. If you are saving money, then maybe I CAN do it.I feed my two cats raw and add the EZ Complete to the raw ground chicken and turkey. I use a little scale Escali to weigh out each portion. The cats natural diet is raw, rodents, birds, rabbits, an occasional squirreland as long as you are not letting raw meat sit around for any length of time to spoil there is not a problem. The EZ Complete says to not leave lay longer than 30 minutes but in room temp you would probably be safe for an hours. I don't have that problem with either cat because when I serve it, it is gone is 5 minutes or less. If you want to put into the autofeeder, I would suggest freezing little food puck servings so that by the time the tray spins open, it would be thawed.
Another good thing about the raw is that cats that have developed sensitivities to certain canned proteins, don't have that problem with raw. Believe it or not, I am saving $$ switching to raw ( I buy from a local butcher and there are no AB, no preservatives, no additives like rosemary oil ) I was feeding them Nature's Variety after Bubba's last GI upset that knocked him out of remission last time.
Between Allen and Boomer they go through about 2-3 large cans of food each day; each are about $2.50 to $3.25 each. It costs a small fortune.Thank you for sharing that with me. The cat's stomach has evolved to be very acidic and healthy cats typically have no issue with salmonella. The chance of the raw is even less if you feed human grade USDA meats which is much better than most commercial pet food manufacturers do.Isn't there cooking involved?
