Feeding time?

I feel like I'm asking 1 million questions. thank you so much to the people that have responded to me.

When do you normally feed your cat? Do you feed it and immediately give it the insulin shot or wait 20 minutes or so? I feel like my cat is starving but he's not supposed to gyet a shot for another 30 minutes

I usually pretest Maury 30-45 minutes before his shot is due. If it's a good number (for him) I feed him half a can of Friskies, he usually eats most of it within 15 minutes, then give him his shot. It was always my understanding with ProZinc we don't have to wait a specific amount of time before giving the shot. @Rachel I feel like I'm forgetting something but my brain is not working, lol. Can you chime in? :cat:
 
I always tested 15-30 min before shot time, then fed right away, then shot. She also has access to food any other time she wants except 2 hours before preshot testing.
 
Hey! Sorry I just saw this. My internet has been kind of wonky today for some reason...yep, I would test and feed early sometimes...as long as they're at a good number, it's fine. I wouldn't go more than about 30 min early on a normal day, though with ProZinc you can be flexible with your shot time up to an hour...just best to keep things as close to 12 hours apart as possible. :)
 
Hi, thank you. I haven't started testing yet. The vet is running some in 3 weeks and the. I plan to test. I'm still completely freaked out about testing. I don't realize it had to be done so much :nailbiting:

It's seriously not hard. The first two weeks are hard because their ears don't bleed easily at first.... After that it literally takes a minute to do.
 
I think the bare minimum for testing is twice a day, preshots. A lot of us are very data driven so the numbers in between help us see patterns in our kitty's :)
 
One note on the young again/food quesiton: It's really not recommended to feed cats dry food if you have any other option. If he's already eating fancy feast, then staying on a wet food diet will help with the weight loss, and with avoiding other serious health issues that can be caused by eating dry food as a regular diet. I do understand that sometimes life makes these choices really really difficult, and I would never guilt someone who just can't make wet food work, but if there's anyway you can stay with wet food, it is strongly recommended.

Thank you. My vet said that I could do 1 meal dry a day if I replaced it with a can, but I will stick to wet unless I can't for some reason.

Just checking out options. He gets pretty hungry, but it could be this is only day 2 of inculin. He did stop drinking like crazy and using the litter so often. It seems to be making him feel a little better
 
I leave wet food out for my cats all day, and it's fine. Granted, it isn't 100 degrees here or anything (I live in a chilly climate), but that way they can eat whenever they're hungry. In the warmer months, I freeze food and then put it out with ice under it so it melts later in the day and is fresher for their afternoon snacks.
