The problem with free feeding is that you don't want Angel eating within 2 hours of tests because the test will be food influenced. If at all possible, I would get all three kitties on the same schedule as Angels which is low carb( LC ) wet food which is served in smaller more frequent meals. It is better for the FD kitties' pancreas to be fed that way. It will save you a lot of aggravation at feeding time. If you work outside the house , lots of us have timed feeders we use to open up when we set the timer so that small frequent meals are given all day.

Got it! Thank you for explaining so clearly. I am determined to follow all your suggestions. I only need to be out of the house 3-4 days a week, and this week I'm home all week, also from May onwards. I'm starting a new thread to learn (and ask some questions) about what the best feeding schedule will be in my circumstances.

I have 3 cats, so free feed. Is that not a good idea for TR? I can feed Angel (who I'm trying to get into TR) strategically on days I don't go in to work -- and the others will just have to go with his snack/meal times -- if necessary.
There are cats here who are free fed but if you feed very much, and certainly anything but LC, after nadir (the lowest number in the cycle which is the peak action of the insulin), then you could see the duration of the insilin fizzling out.

Think of it as a car approaching a stop sign. If you just take your foot off the accelerator, you glide to the stop sign. But if you slam your foot on the brakes, you stop right there and don't make it to the stop sign. Feeding after nadir is akin to slamming the brakes on. Sometimes our kitties get hungry after nadir and so it's ok to feed a small, LC snack like boiled chicken breast.

Oh Marje, in case you're willing to take Angel and me on as two more followers we'd be so so so honored! (and all you other wonderful gurus here too :)!). Just look at us trying to seduce you with cuteness in our photo :D
Let me pop into your condo and look at Angel's SS :)

Thank you, Bobbie.I do feel good that I didn't give up. And without you guys... WOW... there's no telling where we'd be. Marjie... you have made such a huge impact on me. So have all the others but for some reason I just really connected with you. I guess when the student was ready (me), the teacher appeared (you). I have trusted your exeperience and your friendship has meant so much.
Thank you so much, Sandi! It means the world to me but it does take a village and it also takes a committed caregiver, like you.:bighug::bighug::bighug:

We are all so very lucky to have this forum with all the Knowledge and experience and you are very lucky to have Marje on Team Chase because she is just brilliant!
We've all benefitted from the great experience and caring family here and we all just pay it forward.:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I will. I'll do it every cycle. But you know, he's also come to expect those 2 afternoon snacks. Can I still keep giving him those or do I just focus on that 430 a.m. snack?

I'm so proud to be part of this rockin' rollin' family.
You can keep giving him those two afternoon snacks as well. He only needs a tsp or two at +9.

Notice to members reading this: Chase is on a tiny dose and so we are having Sandi feed a +9 snack to see if his pancreas is working. If the pancreas is producing endogenous insulin, then the BG will come down about three hours after eating. By feeding three hours before when a pancreas is working, it brings the preshots down so the insulin starts working from a lower number.

However, this strategy doesn't work for cats who are not producing their own insulin and it's not a strategy we use unless kitty is on an extremely low dose.

Awesome, Sandi!!!! I agree with Bobbie and I knew you would get more confident faster than you ever gave yourself credit for. Read back over your first thread and see how very far you come! We are all proud of you and Chase.

Needless to say, I am ecstatic that our plan is working so far and he's surfing!!!! Looks like that +9 snack might have worked so I would do it every cycle, ok?

Go Chase go!!!!!!
I'm an idiot. Chase does SO well, and I set his timed feeding to be +11 instead of +9 (Tuesday night). I'm so disappointed in myself.
