I wouldn't think bounce at the moment-- maybe a little food bump? But (so far) she's still basically hovering in the 200's. If she goes higher before nadir today, then I might think a little bouncing was going on, but let's see what she does.

I'm sorry I didn't get to stop in yesterday, but I would have suggested you increase this morning to 5.5 units. Maybe try that tonight and going forward. We usually move to larger increases as you step up the dosing scale. Think about an increase as a percentage of the size of dose. Back on 1 and 2 units, a 0.25 unit increase is pretty significant, 25-12.5% of the total dose. But up at 5 units, is just a 5% increase so it seems to work better to go to larger increases at once.

Come on Phoebe, let's see some pretty blue soon.

does that mean when you keep 6 cycles of 4 the next logical dose up is .5 considering all the other factors of TR ?

For TR, if your dose is under 5 units, you increase by .25 units if seeing some yellow, or by.5 units if all numbers are above 300. If the total dose is over 5 units, you typically increase by 0.5 units, unless you are really close to a good dose with some green, in which case you might do a 0.25 unit increase.

For cats that are really high and flat or showing some ketones, we may be more aggressive in the increases. Phoebe is not in that category.

I can't monitor her this evening would it hurt to start the 5.5u in the am I will be home to monitor? That makes sense ty. My husband is flipping out with the increases. Like I don't have enough on my plate trying to keep up with her. He is taking bgs tho.

No problem waiting until it's convenient to do the increase.

Tell DH (dear hubby) that cats need as much insulin as they need. Each one is different and the range of insulin doses here is a really wide range, from mere drops to 35 units. And I've seen larger. Phoebe has a few extra things going on with her IBD and pancreatitis, and they can cause some insulin resistance. Don't worry, you WILL find a dose that gets Phoebe into nice numbers. :bighug: I like to tell people that it's the blood sugar numbers that are important, not the size of the dose.

:) he had his reservation when I started here, then we keep going up, he's like umm shouldn't we ask the vet? I said do you think I would do anything to hurt her?? I got this, and my vet already said she doesn't know everything about FD. I so appreciate every one of you guys. I talked to the vet wed last week and told her my plans, she seemed perfectly fine with what you all have advised. She wants to bring her in a few weeks so we can do another test, can't remember what it's called but it's not a fasting blood draw. It will check her levels. What is the test they can do for pacrentitis levels without sending it to the university? :)

would you consider Raja as one of those cases where I should be agressive to lower his number down ?

The fructosamine test is what a lot of vets like to do. It gives an average blood sugar over a couple of weeks. After the first few times I never paid for that anymore, because I gather a lot more real time data at home. For caregivers that don't test at home, it's a way for the vet to get an idea how a dose is doing. The pancreatitis test you might be thinking of is the SpecfPL - Idexx labs can do this. Some vets have an in house SnapfPL test, but it doesn't give levels, just positive or not. Have you seen Marje's Primer on Pancreatitis?
