Happy Caturday!! Hope all the beans and kitties are doing well and enjoying a relaxing day!

I have been MIA on the board the last few days. Hubby and I have been pretty busy with work.

Since Ozzy's second double dose on 2/28, we have kept him on the .75U. We haven't been able to monitor much if at all during the day cycles due to our work schedules, but are getting some spot checks and before bed tests in on the evening cycles. It appears for the most part that Ozzy has had some lower yellow numbers and I imagine he's gotten into the blues a few times during the day cycles and possibly on some of the evening cycles after we went to bed. It looks like he spent a good amount of time in blue yesterday and possibly even hit some greens. I was a little bummed when we woke up to a pink preshot this morning again after his nice blue cycle last night, but he surprised me again and has had a nice blue and now GREEN cycle so far today. Yay! This makes mama bean very happy for my Ozzy boy! He is currently on cycle 7 since the double dose. We will be monitoring him this weekend to continue to see how he does and determine if he needs any insulin adjustments, but I'm thinking he's doing good on this dose (unless he drops low again). I hope he doesn't bounce after seeing green today, but most likely he will because he's just a bouncy sort of guy. :woot::woot::cat::cat:

Other than the above, Ozzy is spending time in his cone due to him continuing to gnaw at that hot spot on his back. It's been going on for over a month now and I'm really tired of seeing it and don't want him to get it infected. We were really hesitant to use the steroid medication the vet gave us but I did put it on him about 2-3 times now. We really need to be more consistent in trying to treat this hot spot so it will go away. I cleaned the wound with the steroid med and then slathered on a good dollop of Neosporin. He's been coned up for about an hour now. Surprisingly he's doing pretty good and not minding it too much. That is a relief, because I might be keeping him in it for several hours today, tonight, and the same tomorrow so we can be more aggressing on keeping him away from the hot spot. Oh, and he started on one his front leg, too. So we are trying to work on that one too to make sure it doesn't get too bad.

Anyone have advice on how they have dealt with or treated hot spots? This one has been going on for far too long.

Hey there, glad to hear Ozzy's seen some green on this dose. Hope someone can help out with the hot spot issue. I've never experienced it in any of my cats but my dog Carlos has had skin issues. I hesitate to recommend any of the remedies to you because I'm not sure how effective and/or problematic they would be for felines. Oh how I hate to cone them up too. Glad he's being a good sport for now at least!

Thanks! I know I was recommended the cover mes, but I was really more curious on any meds/ topicals just to elaborate more on my question. I know keeping them away from it is important, but I'm also wanting to know how to treat the skin issue itself.

Ozzy is due for a snack. He's actually pretty late in his cycle (usually nadir's around +8ish), so I'm not feeling overly concerned. Happy in fact. This has been his BEST cycle in so long!

Nice greens today Ozzy :D

I have used Aloe vera sunburn relief gel on my dog who gets hot spots from flea bites and it stops the hot spot in it's tracks. Recently my civvie cat, Forrest had an issue on his ear that he was scratching at and the med the vet gave did not help so I tried the aloe vera gel, and it was gone within 2 days. I told the vet what I used and she said she was glad to know so that she can RX it for skin issues. I get the CVS store brand. It has lidocaine in it too so it topically numbs the area so they leave it alone and then the aloe heals the wound. I swear by it .

@Bobbie And Bubba Thanks so much for the tip on the aloe vera sunburn gel. This is really great info and glad it helped ur furbabies. Any concerns with them licking off the type with the lidocaine in it?

In the past the only thing that worked for Ozzy and his hot spots that he didnt seem to mess with too much was pure aloe vera so I am not suprised and happy about your suggestion for the gel. Ozzy always liked the pure aloe vera- I would just open up a stem from a leaf ans squeeze out the juice and rub it in. Ozzy liked to lick the inside of the leaf too which was wierd because it's pretty bitter. I totally forgot all about this for some reason -prob just overwhelmed with all the FD and IBD issues plus it's been a long time since he had a hot spot. Gonna pick up the gel you mentioned because that sounds a lot easier to use! Thanks so much!!

Guys, I'm so excited over Ozzy's last few cycles. It's like something is finally working again! I feel like we haven't seen this many good numbers in so long. I fear he is headed for a low tonight, but it's ok- we will deal with it if it comes (who am I!????).

I was a little nervous about shooting the 116 PS tonight but the 'shoot low to stay low" motto kept ringing in my head so I went ahead with the status quo. Ozzy jumped up over 100 points in one hour which was probably mostly due to a food spike (but a pretty big climb in one hour nonetheless). I figured we were out and he's now headed for a bounce, but nope- 2 hours later he was back in blues! YAY!!! I think he is definitely headed back to greens for this cycle since he's 123 @ +4 and has been nadiring around +8 lately. We will keep an eye on him for the next few hours and I'm really fortunate that we still have 2 more cycles to monitor closely on this dose before returning to work. Monday morning may be a scare if he has some low numbers still (even though I am hoping as we want him to go down) because we won't be able to monitor. But we are just taking this one cycle, one day at a time.

Now, my poor kitty is going back in his cone and getting some hot spot treatment! Boo!!!
For the meantime...YAY Ozzy!
