Our hearts go out to John and Donna today. PurrFace is flying free.

Good Morning, L&LL,
Rusty had a "combination" night: some good breathing and some bad. We'll see what the vettybean says today. Rusty will also get his B-12 shot and his rabies vaccination. I'm leary of the later, but it is required by law and Rusty goes outside, too. My vet doesn't do the PureVac because it is too expensive for the clientelle. She would have ordered it for me, but I would have had to buy a whole box and that would really have been $$$. So we'll go with the ordinary vaccine, as before, and hope for the best.

Wishing everyone a fine day. We have mild temperatures and sunshine (for now). I hope our snow season isn't over! At the moment Rusty is lounging in his perch in the sunshine.

Lots of vetty vines and easy breathing vines for Rusty. And paws crossed on the rabies vaccine. Sounds like you're taking the best option, I would do the same. We got 15" of snow last night but it will probably melt in a couple of days.

Hi again. The vet thinks he may have a bacterial thing in his nasal passages and prescribed Orbax antibiotic (once a day for 14 days). She gave him the first dose in the office: he struggled mightily. I don't know how Edward and I are going to give this liquid! The vet is not comfortable giving the rabies vaccine while he is on the A/B, so we're holding off on that. She wants to see him again on Friday, at which time she will evaluate further. He got his B-12 shot.
So the LagoonMeister couldn't wait to get back into his carrier to go home. He finished his lunch and ate another helping. We decided to skip +9.
Oh, and Rusty lost about 3/4 lb. in a month. He needs to eat! Vet checked his heart and lungs and both sounded good. She also checked his mouth (he has 5 teeth).
So onward!!

bbl, thanks for your concern.

@Amy&TrixieCat : I don't think they titer for rabies because it is required by law.

hope Rusty feeling better soon. And that all goes well at the vet, rabies vac and all.
The last of the snow here melted away, the last few days of it in our back yard looked like islands in a sea of emerging green. One looked like Japan, another like Block Island, another reminiscent of the Marshall Islands, and so on.
Have a good evening, Ella, and scritches and better breathing vines for Rusty.

ETA: just saw your update. Hope the Orbax helps.

I hope that the Orbax will help Rusty's breathing. And good luck giving it to him! I always approached from behind the cat, then curled my hand around at the last minute, so she didn't see the dropper coming.

Eat yer fuds Rusty!

We were rowing in the snow this AM. First time I've ever done that. It didn't stick on the ground though.

Prayers that Orbax does the trick! I don't know if this will work for you, but my civvie Zen is quite the fighter-of-meds, too, and it takes both Mark and I to do it. Mark holds him by the scruff and I squirt the med in the side of his mouth....has to be done REALLY quickly. Back when Zen was smaller, Mark actually picked him up all-four-paws off the floor but Zen was one of the rare few cats who could still wiggle and deliver a mighty scratch when scruffed!

Sending good vetty vines. We're required by law to do the rabies vaccine too. It always makes me nervous. I just found out that Thuja can combat side effects from vaccines. I ordered some to keep on hand for my cats. http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/products/Newton-Homeopathics-Thuja/161016.aspx
Thank you, Carla. This looks promising.

I'll have to try your technique. I haven't given liquid medicine since Stu, and that was a mighty struggle! We've paddled in the snow several times, also in skim ice, which can be dangerous because it moves around.
I hope that he allows you and Edward to give him the a/b and that he feels better very soon.
I'll keep you posted. Hope all is well in your home and that Lucy is continuing to charm you. Too bad you can't visit us now: you could give Rusty his medicine! :p

Got it! Will give it a try tomorrow.

Rusty ate all his mid-afternoon fuds, and, later--after his PM shot--played a little with his Tower of Fun. This is all very encouraging. Going downstairs soon to hold his dinner bowl for him while we watch Trump's address (if we can bear it!).

I hope the orbax makes it all better...... for him.... sounds like some struggles for you two....
And it's good to have an explanation for his increasing congestion.... one that's treatable.....

hope snow isn't over too....
we got 4 inches on our mountain on sunday and it's snowed all day up there so hopefully another four....
more skiing this weekend.....:woot:

We used to have a terrible time giving Harvey meds, and then we found the cat sack. The first few times I put him in it he struggled like crazy, but in a surprisingly short period of time he stopped fighting it, and in his last few months he would even step into it! Once it was zipped up he was calm as could be - I think it works like the thunder shirt - they feel safe. Anyway, other than the issue with prying his iron jaws apart, I was able to give him meds without assistance.

I'm glad the vet found a possible cause for the increased congestion. I hope the AB takes care of it. So glad he ate with enthusiasm when you got home. Sending vines.
