She pretty much gets fed after every test. Is that the problem. She has lost so much weight and she is always hungry. What do I do? Well she gets food about every 2 hours, except at night, she gets a can when we go to bed then I leave a food icesicle out for later in morning.

I wouldn't say problem-- if she's underweight and still in high-ish numbers, she definitely needs to eat. It's just something that happens-- feeding when numbers are dropping early in the cycle, even feeding low-carb, will tend to "tap the brakes" a bit on the descent. It might be one of the things that keeps her so flat-- later on, when she starts getting into blues and greens regularly, this will be exactly what you are aiming for! Others here can go into more detail on using food to steer numbers (I wasn't doing the sugardance with my kitty quite long enough to get the hang of it, so all my knowledge is theoretical).

But if I am taping the brake every time, and increasing the dose, and she stays flat am I making her stay in these numbers? :( :( I just don't know how to not feed her. She's 12 pounds needs to be around 14. Seems to get bonier every day.

No, I really don't think this is what is keeping her up in yellows overall-- she just hasn't gotten to the right dose yet. At most, it might have kept her from dipping into the high blues a time or two when she otherwise might have, but it's not keeping her from being regulated. She just needs more insulin.

And she very definitely needs food! Absolutely keep feeding her the regular small meals-- not only does she need to gain weight, but with the pancreatitis, frequent meals are going to help prevent irritation and flares. The BG numbers will come down, eventually, but these other issues have to also be managed.

It's not easy! But you are doing great!

Thank you I needed that.

Well, it's not gonna happen today. I know I need new patience pants. I see all these people having to deal with hypo numbers, and I should be thankful. But I just want her to feel better and I want her pancreas to get working. Maybe it has gone on too long.

It's so easy to get caught up in the day-by-day and even hour-by-hour with FD, but step back a bit: she's only been on insulin for, what, two months, essentially? None of us know how long our kitties were diabetic before diagnosis, but in most cases it's likely longer than that. Phoebe is clearly pretty comfy up in the 200's-- it's going to take some time (and the right dose of insulin) to shake her out of her body's comfort zone up there. I also keep hoping that this is the dose and this is the day, but only Phoebe knows when the time will be right!

According to the blood work she was only on steroid 7 days and she got it, because all the blood work that was done before steroid, was a ok. I see what your saying, maybe she no speakenzee.

Hey Angela, in regards to the feeding thing, with her being underweight, I understand you wanting to feed her to let her gain back some weight. The only problem with that frequent is that it could be altering the tests. I say "could " because for most cats you wouldn't want to test within the 2 hour period of food because of a hike but, I found with Bubba he was so carb sensitive that I had to wait at least 3 hours to get a more accurate assessment of how the insulin was working. She may or may not be the same.

With as flat as she has been maybe it would be worth a try to try spacing out the meals every 3 hours and see if you see some move movement. You could divide up the same amount of calories and just distribute them further apart. Just an idea.

Hi Bobbie--

Good thought on spacing the meals out just a bit more, I didn't think of that, didn't know it would make a big enough difference, but that is good to know about your experience with Bubba. I do worry about opening up big gaps, given Phoebe's pancreatitis, but 3hrs isn't all that much.

As far as the feeding schedule for kitties with chronic P'titis, I admit, I don't know what the criteria for frequency of feeding is, so please @Phoebes check to make sure that is not going to be harmful to Phoebes.

Thank you for the info. Will call vet about it but am pretty sure (I was stressed when I got the news) that she said give smaller meals more frequent. That we would just adjust the insulin as needed. I haven't talked to her for a few weeks so will give her a ring. She is off tomorrow, but will leave a message for her to call. I do sometimes wait to test her 3 hours. Like thus last amount I have her 1/2 can of ff chic, at 3 o'clock @+6 was 275, she ate it all, and just tested her at +9 it's 308. Fed her 1/2 can of ff chic. I worry leaving her for 3 hours because she eats like she hasn't eaten all day at 2 hours. If she gobbles to fast because she feels she is starving, she will scarf and barf. :/ you guys are so caring and so great. You all are so appreciated. At least at this house. Would 2 and a half hours make a difference? :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:@Bobbie And Bubba @Nan & Amber
