Can someone, or lots of you, have a look at Sky's curve today?

It's actually not a curve - it's a flatline! I don't know what it means - is she getting too much insulin if she doesn't increase again?

she does seem to have a very slow metabolism which also won't help matters!

My initial thought is not to inject her tonight and see when she starts to increase - the problem being that some of the increase could be food related.

thanks :)

Not sure. She's surfing in nice blue numbers. If she was mine I'd try the same dose again tonight to see what effect it has. I'd be more concerned if she was flat pink or red as far as dose ineffectiveness goes.

I agree with Kris... The numbers look nice. I like those blues and that you dipped under 150. I don't think she's getting too much... just seems to run differently at night. I might do 1 unit again when the number is over 350. I might up the dose SLIGHTLY in the evening because it looks like after the lower day she runs higher at night. So when it's 180 I might do .75 (or even 1 if you were able to do a check at +4 or 5).

I've taken the easy option - I've given her a 0.4 unit dose (or as near I could do it). Seeing how she dropped with the 0.8 earlier when she was much higher I couldn't bring myself to give her the same dose.

I was still considering not injecting and testing her - giving her her insulin when she begins to increase. The idea being that as she goes high overnight if she has insulin later it may tide her over better until the morning injection but I'm not sure that that is a good idea.

I'll keep testing for the next few hours and then see where she goes. I don't like her high morning numbers so I think something could have to change just not sure what!

I have to email the vet the curve results so I will ask them what they think.

Thanks :)

Beginning to wish I hadn't injected her! In 3 hours she's dropped quite a lot and her nadir is usually +6 so I have 3 hours of worry to go.

Wish I could help Karen but I'm very far from a dosing expert (I tend to stick to the basics for newbies). Only suggestion - is it worth duplicating this thread on the Caninsulin forum? Or maybe you've tried that and find you get more responses here? In any case, best of luck - you do seem to have your hands full with Sky and I'm sure you'll be keeping a very close eye now in case she drops further... let's hope not. Maybe she's got an erratic metabolism (if there is such a thing, I don't know but ECID).

Paws crossed...

Diana

Could you slow the descent with a snack of regular food? Right now her number is good and the drop to +6 might not be linear. She might end up in safe green.

She is due her supper so that will slow her down. I daresay she will be right back up high tomorrow morning. I suspect she will just stay out of hypo but I need a better way to do this, especially at night if she is low to start with.

Just tested again and she has dropped a little more so she has had some of her supper. I know she's not in the greens yet but with 2 more hours to go she's getting lower than my comfort level likes! will do her another test in an hour and I'm sure it will have increased a little. Fingers crossed!

Another small drop at +5 so she's eaten again. She was very unhappy at having another test so will leave her be for the night. With the food she has eaten and the slowing of the descent she will be fine I'm sure.
