Timmy is at 80 right now at +4. How do I steer this. I am freaking out a bit. Please, not another hypo!
Feed a small snack of regular low carb food and retest in 20 minutes. Post here.
He's at 61 right now. He is quite upset that I took his food away. I just need to breathe!!!Yes, Vetsulin usually has its peak action around +4 to +6. He might not drop much more and the snacks should help. Keep them small in case you need to give several.. You don't want to fill him up.
Breathing is good! He's at 61 right now. He is quite upset that I took his food away. I just need to breathe!!!
Feeding small snack now and will test in 20 minutes. Got it.Breathing is good!Give another small snack of this same food.
That is definitely good. If it was the Sheba he was on before, it would be impossible. I'm so confused. What is happening with his numbers all of a sudden?Glad he is so interested in the food! That will make this much easier to manage.
That hypo of the day before yesterday has left him more insulin sensitive. He used up his liver stores to prop himself up after the lime green and stay high in bounce numbers yesterday. His stores are depleted so today he's giving you green again. That is definitely good. If it was the Sheba he was on before, it would be impossible. I'm so confused. He might be starting to surf at this level. Give another snack of the regular food and retest in 20 minutes. If he's still at/near this BG level then, you'll withhold food and wait another 20 min before testing. That's to see if he can stay stable without the food prop. You'll also be passing his nadir soon.He is at 60 now.

OK. If he drops then you can continue with the small snacks of regular food. He's still in safe numbers and there's no point jacking up his BG with extra carbs if they're not needed. Where is he time wise relative to his AM dose?He is at 59. So I'm holding the food and will test again in 20 minutes.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping me through this today.Hurray! I think he's good. Now you can leave the testing to hourly maybe up to +8 and then give his ears a break until PMPS.![]()

I am definitely going to need advice with that tonight. I'm trying to make sense of his spreadsheet now. I am also thinking that I need to test him at +4/+5 after the pm dose, just so I don't miss something. When he has those yellow numbers on his amps, maybe he is going lower during the night. I have to get a handle back on his dosing.Dose decrease tonight I think.![]()
So tonight's PMPS was 299. Do you still think 1 unit tonight. Are you going to try 1 u tonight?
Thank you for your reply. We gave him 0.75 units tonight, just to be safe...I hope. You know me, I am very reluctant to give dose advice, especially with Vetsulin. Since no one else has answered, though, I'll say that I think 1.0U is still reasonable. I'd still monitor for a while tonight, given his recent history!
There doesn't seem to be any pattern in his numbers over the last few days, at least none that I can follow with any confidence. This may not be enough of a dose tonight, but I'll be up monitoring him anyway. It's worrisome in that his +2 this morning wasn't a huge drop at all, so I thought we would just be in blues today. There is just no pattern. The dose you gave should be safe. You have to do what's comfortable for you.Thank you for your reply. We are ready to switch to Lantus, but are stalling a bit to see where these numbers are taking Timmy. Remission? After today though, DH wants the switch now. Changes are coming. I just want to make the right change at the right time, if that is even a thing.Thank you once again for the support today. It is so appreciated.
