? Question for Relion Meter Users

I have got to get an alternative to my Alpha Trak meter. The price for strips is eating us up!! I'd like to swing by Walmart on the way home and pick one up. My question is: what's the difference between a confirm, prime and micro meter. They all seem to be fast and use a small sample size. What I can't tell is if they all have the "sipping" function. That's a must for us and our squirmy girl! Any other reasons to go for one over the other??

The Confirm and Micro use the same test strips, the micro is just a smaller version. The Prime uses different, much cheaper strips, but also a bit larger blood sample. All three suck the blood up. If your cat bleeds easily, the Prime would be the cheaper, but if you have trouble getting blood, the required sample size of the Confirm or Micro would be better.
 
I have used Relion meters for years and have been very pleased with them. The few times when I had to contact their customer service department, they resolved the issue promptly. If you ever need to contact them just remember to tell them a person used the meter and not a cat. Most of the times I had to contact them was because one of my cats would knock it off of the counter and play with it. :cat:

I recently switched from an AlphaTrak2 to a Relion Prime. I had a hard time letting go of the AT2 for the first week, but you can't beat the savings on the price of the strips.

I will hang on to my AT2 for when I do curves for the vet.

I'll keep using the Alpha Trak for curves but I can't afford the daily readings on it!!

There have been a few days (today for instance) that I inserted the strip all the way before I was ready, so i had to dispose of it, and it does make it a little easier knowing that it's not costing me too much if a mistake does happen!
 
Just another comment since you will be keeping the AT for curves, I am using Free Style Lite test strips for Maury's AT2 meter. They're not as inexpensive as ReliOn but are a little less than the alphatrak strips. Both AT and FS are made by Abbott, I believe.
 
My MUCH preferred meter is the Relion Micro but when finances are tight, I use the Prime. Doc bleeds easily most of the time. The Prime is very slow to sip compared to the Micro or Confirm models...at times I pull the Prime strip away too fast causing an error - have to use another strip and try again.
 
I use the ReliOn Confirm and didn't realize how much I loved it until I ran out of test strips and Walmart was out of them, so I had to use our backup meter (some cheap one from CVS). There's a big difference between the .3 and .5 drops for sure. I will never not use the Confirm :cat:

Yes! I called to order FREE testing solution and they asked if I had a reading that seemed off. Told them there was a 60 point difference in my two meters. Then told him it was reading 598 and he almost lost it. Urging me to hang up and call 911. They seem knowledgeable and caring. I finally cracked and told him it was my cat and he suggested the vet. I didn't give him the serial number on my meter because I thought it would be flagged for using it on a pet. :smuggrin:
