I dont know if I am overly paranoid or not...

Rex (my civvie) got a lion cut and flea treatment done today. She has gotten both before, albeit, not at the same time. Since she got home, she literally cant get comfortable. She is constantly grooming (which isnt completely unusual for the lion cut) and can't sit still for more than a minute. She is having the normal "skin crawl" from being exposed, but it feels more beyond than that.

Her muscles seem to be twitching? And she growls at me if i touch her too much. I dont know if her hip was aggravated during the visit (I've been thinking she pulled it recently jumping up to where her food was kept.)

I am trying not to be paranoid... since she has had so many flea treatments in her lifetime, I dont FEEL like an adverse reaction.

But I feel bad.

Anyone ever encounter this?

Obviously, if it prevents her from sleeping, I'll bring her to the vet, but after all the money I have spenton gordy, my vet fund is getting really low =/

Here's a video... she was able to lay there for about a minute and a half before something jolted her.
 
I called and left a message at the groomers to see what product they used. She has had numerous drops used on her, been given flea baths before and Ive used collars...

I think she is in pain.

My concern (and I think this is a low probability, because you'd think an experienced groomer would know this) is that dog and cat flea treatments are very different, and there are all kinds of warnings on the dog treatments that they are toxic to cats. Again, I stress, I think it's a very low probability that they might have gotten things mixed up, but if you won't hear back from the groomer until tomorrow, I think it might be worth calling a vet or a pet poison control and describing the symptoms. Totally get the financial constraints part of things, but as low a probability as it is, if the symptoms match it would be imperative to take her in asap.

Crossing fingers it's just grumpiness from the indignity of the grooming! :bighug:

Rex did get some relief when she was laying differently.

In all seriousness, it could just be she is itchy from the experience. But she has never seemed this sensitive before.
 
Ok. We are waiting to be seen.

I think I will have them bathe her again.

I spoke with the Vet before coming down. She said that sometimes the tub itself will have remnants of the dog treatment and that alone can cause mild reactions.

She said if thats the case, Rex will just need another bath and some muscle relaxers. Plus side, if she seems fine enough, we can do her vaccinations.
 
I had to wash my civvie with dawn dish soap before because the dog shook after getting her treatment and a drop landed on him. I knew because he squinits his eyes and walks like something is sitting on him, like army crawls when he gets his flea treatment drops. Phone number on the box and vet told me to wash him with dawn. It gets through the oils or whatever is in there and stops the absorption of more. Doesn't help what already was absorbed. I hope she feels better soon.
 
Hi! Just wanted to put my 2 cents in. Maury has had 2 lion cuts in his life and he has also had similar "spasms" that Rex was having after her cut. I don't recall him ever having some that are bad enough to wake him up but it looks to me like Rex has something that's irritated her skin. I would've tried a warm damp cloth to wipe her down, if it was a matter of little furs sticking her. If that didn't work, I would've tried Steph's method of giving her another bath with Dawn dish soap and would say stick with name brand just to be safe. They sell Dawn at Dollar Trees if you are U.S.. Maury doesn't seem to have the "spasms" as much when his fur is grown back out but I'm also still waiting for his pattern fur to grow back in. For some reason most of his body stripes have not come back, just his solid one down his spine. He's still my handsome boy though! :cat:

Hi all!!

Just got back from the Vet. At first, Rex was acting completely normal (making me seem crazy lol). So, the vet was giving the exam and I mentioned that I suspected Rex's hip bothering her. She definitely did not appreciate the hip being manipulated... so the next step was to watch her walk around. And then she relaxed some, and the twitching started! So the vet said that's the classic type of twitch for the flea reaction and she probably had a mild reaction.

They didnt bathe her because they said it had been too long anyway.

So, for now, she is on kitty muscle relaxers (hasnt kicked it yet, but i hope it does soon!!!) And if the twitching doesnt get better, they will look into the pain option.

Also, the groomer called while I was writing this. She said the shampoo they use is good for both cats ans dogs and she had never heard any of the cats having bad reactions. (She felt really bad!) I think it just comes down to Rex having a sensitivity to it because she was soaked for 30 minutes. (Did you guys know fleas can hold their gross insect breath for 30 minutes?!?!?! GROSS)

fingers crossed the relaxers help her sleep!

(And, for note, i would have totally done the dawn bath IF I was able yo bathe her myself. Last time I tried, I got really scratched up and it took a while to get over the trauma. Hence why I was having it done at the groomers. LOL)

Whose trauma, hers or yours? :p

So glad you took her in, and glad you found out exactly what was used and have an explanation for the reaction-- I bet you're right, it was the time that did it.

Hope the muscle relaxers do the trick!
 
I bathed my cat's maybe 3 or 4 times. Last time I did it... They howled and hissed while they summoned all of their dead relatives, any spirit that would listen and possibly the devil himself. Last bath I ever tried. They dug me so bad I have scars.
With the dawn bath I was thinking the flea drops not a dip.. spot cleaning is much easier!
