What Is The Best Wet Food

?Can anyone here tell me what the best features of a wet food for diabetic cats are? Chase has been eating Purina DM but it doesn't even list carbohydrates in the ingredients. Does that mean its 0 carbs? It only has Protien 11.5%, Fat 4.5%, Fiber 2.5% and Moisture 78%. I have seen people talk about how hi protein low carb is the best way to go. It doesn't list anything about phospherous, either, which apparently is another factor to look at. He has no other health issues, aside from some skin itching.

The prescription Purina DM is very expensive and I just want to find something close to it, or better than... that costs less. Can anyone help?

Carbohydrates are not required to be listed on the label and are not listed. You are looking at the guaranteed analysis which is required to be listed.
The pate DM gets about 3% of calories from carbs. See page 31 of

IF your cat likes it and eats it.... imho, the best food would be nature's variety brands....

I am feeding my new cats the chicken option as much as I can get them to eat it. One loves it, the other isn't so keen without toppers....
but it's not cheap.....
My two young ones are not diabetic.... but I feed them foods from our lists.....

I just purchased this brand yesterday. I have prescription food from the vet however, after reading multiple posts on here I decided to try the Nature's variety instinct grain free in duck, venison, rabbit and lamb. He had the script food in the morning and then I gave him the duck throughout the day since he is used to free feeding dry food. I have removed the scripted dry food. I also ordered a feeder since he will need to eat throughout the day. I am waiting for it to arrive. I travel for work and my husband will be responsible for him during the days that I am not home and he has his own business. I thought that the self feeder would be a good option for him. I came home on Thursday and I can see a difference in him just in the last few days.

My boys did well with Nature's Variety for about 6 months and then decided they didn't like it anymore. I was giving chicken, duck, and turkey. I have switched them to Wild Calling canned and so far so good. I'm giving chicken and turkey.

I mainly get Friskies for his meals and got a couple Fancy Feast if he asks for a wet food snack instead of his DM crunchies. Got the FF Shrimp and Tuna since it was listed as 0% carbs for those snacks. Was also told by a Vet that Pounce treats (U.S.) are ok for diabetic kitties if you are on a budget. Not sure about all flavours but I have the orange-ish bag, Turkey something and the plastic bottle, also orange-ish label, that are moist seafood flavour for his curve treats.

Which has carbs? The Nature's Variety? I went to their website, read the can at the store and spoke to the salesperson who we have used forever. Are you saying the Friskies have carbs?

The majority of canned food has carbs but there are some that don't have any (or possibly minimal traces). The idea is to keep them on wet food brand / flavours with less than 8% carbs content. Unfortunately, carb content is not required to be listed by manufacturer's but Eliz found this Carb Calculator if you find a brand not listed on the chart.
