Dropped down to 140 last cycle.
The diarrhea has started again, I don't know what to do. I don't want to give her steroids, I don't even know if it is IBS causing it. I really want to get the fecal test done to rule out bacteria etc in the bowel but just don't have the $350.
I don't know. The diarrhea cleared up with the antibiotic, but now it's back. Does anyone know if diarrhea from IBS clears up with antibiotic?
 
Savannahs did when she was little and first got diagnosed with IBS... adding fiber into her food made a world of difference for her... and she was able to go with no meds from the ages of 1-11 years old... at that point we sadly had to start 1/2 prednisilone every other day... that is just my experience with IBS... Savannah gets scared of her back end when it starts so she RUNS from it... yeah nothing like trails of diarrhea... so i am very much feeling your bad poop pains right now :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you for the info on the antibiotic. I wonder why it helps the IBS.
What kind of fiber?
Running from diarrhea! I'm very lucky, Eleanor just forgets to "wipe"!

I bought Psyllium, but then read if you don't get enough water into the cat it can cause a blockage. I don't know how much water is enough, and getting extra water into Eleanor is already an ongoing struggle.
Is there another fiber?
I've tried various probiotics, which all made the diarrhea worse.
Pumpkin, did nothing, SEB, which was wonderful at first but doesn't
do much now. What else? I know I tried something else...Also Metronidazol, which sometimes seems to help but I'm told such conflicting things about it, I don't know if I'm helping her or harming her, besides, it's a drug, I don't trust drugs!
 
we use Benefibre for Savvy... tasteless odorless mixes right in with the food... she is very scent sensitive so hard to fool her ... not sure how it works with a diabetic though... best to get Marje thoughts on this..

she runs forward full tilt with diarrhea... and backwards if she has a hairball... the poor girl does not like her bodily functions at all

Eleanor is also very scent and taste sensitive, if she catches me sneaking something into her food, she not only won't eat it, she gets paranoid and won't eat anything on her own for a couple days..

Poor Savannah! Reminds me of my Tulip, eliminating is a traumatic
experience for her.
 
I think I've suggested the Saccharomyces boulardii for Eleanor before (sorry, can't remember). The only thing about it is it won't work if her B12 is low and my guess is that it is. I think I'm out of ideas if the SEB isn't working except....did you ever talk to the vet about budesonide and did they start it?

Maybe syringe it directly in the mouth so she doesn't have food avoidance. You said pinning raised her bg, but maybe it was discomfort from the diarrhea that caused the raise..... I haven't heard of anyone having trouble with pumpkin affecting numbers.

I have to syringe the SEB into her mouth, she likes the taste of it at least!
I have come across a couple posts here where people said the pumpkin raised their cats BG. Maybe one of those ECID things.
 
I didn't realize it had alcohol in it. I missed that when I scanned the ingredients. I don't know if it is safe for a diabetic or not. I bought Furball some liquid for her ear infection that has alcohol in it. I am diluting it with water to get rid of the alcohol before I give it to her. I have a small one ounce liquid measuring cup. I put 1 ounce of water in the cup and add seven drops of the medicine. That gets rid of the alcohol. Then I draw up a little bit in the tip of the dropper (estimated to be around three drops) and give it to her by mouth. I mix a new batch each day. I give it to her three or four times a day from one batch.
 
Julie, I searched for whether it is safe to give cats medicine with alcohol in it and found this statement.

Dogs and cats that are exposed to alcohol can also have perilous drops in their blood sugar level and might need to be given glucose speedily to avoid brain damage. Very low blood sugars can cause fits in pets.

If you get this medicine, you'll need to dilute it to get rid of the alcohol. I don't understand why they add alcohol to it.

Oh my gosh! That is scary! I didn't know you could get rid of the alcohol by diluting! That's really great to know. Thank you.
