I have a little sugar baby named Coda. He's 13.5 years old and is currently 12.4 lbs (averaged between 11- 13.5 lbs during adult life). Coda is transitioning from dry food (using the vet's dietetic food to make transition) to low carb fancy feast classic pate wet food ( with eventual plans for incorporating some raw food back into his diet, since he retired 5 years ago from hunting lol). Currently not on insulin, vet wants to see how he does on diet changes and if he ever starts to read above 400 mg/dl (highest was 320 mg/dl, during first test with his last ounce of wellness senior kibbles). Home testing! Average readings between 140 mg/dl and 200 mg/dl with the occasional 280-320 mg/dl readings during stress (vet and car rides omg), too much dry food, and right after active play (jumping/ pouncing). I will be posting some questions in the health forum about calorie intake, readings, insulin advice, and financial help! Thank you!

Welcome! Congratulations on home testing and phasing in low carb wet food. Any idea what insulin your vet might prescribe?

Hi thank you! I have no idea what insulin the vet is thinking of prescribing, will be going in for another visit in next couple weeks to do blood work. From research I see that Lantus is fairly common.
