Good morning!
AMPS 121 shooting .25F

Boomer woke me up just after 2:00 +6 and I got up to find an empty bowl. I guess he just felt the need to tell me he had finished:rolleyes: He then woke us up around 5:30; he was singing out in the living room then eventually he came to bed. When I picked up his auto feeder a few minutes ago I found that he hadn't finished his +9. So I was expecting a higher AMPS.

Thank you everyone for all the well-wishes for our civvie Allen!:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
Other than the diarrhea in the carrier on the way home yesterday, he hasn't pooped:rolleyes: He's eating fine and made it clear to us last night that he still expected to be given some fancy feast so he's getting that along with the dry s*** that the vet recommended for constipation problems. Vet did mention a medicine that could be given him to help him poop; I should have asked the name of it but didn't and I probably wouldn't have remembered it anyways:rolleyes: He did have a humongous pee last night (or possibly 2 or 3 which all came together lol)
Yahoo I remembered to weigh both kitties; Boomer 15.2 Allen 13.4

It's another dull and dreary day here with snow expected for the next few days:p I am in desperate need of some sunshine!

Boomer, singing is nice but not in the wee hours of the night buddy. Sure he'll be deep in the lagoon shortly. Would the poopy med be Lactulose? Sending poop vines for Allen.

Hoping some sunshine heads your way soon. It's been unseasonably dreary here too but next week better weather is suppose to be coming. Have a good day Judy.

I was waiting for him to mention lactulose but he didn't....but I think I read that lactulose has calcium in it so wouldn't be appropriate for Allen with his increased calcium level.

Yahoo I found the foods I was looking for at Pet Valu. Apparently they are new foods so that's likely why I was having a difficult time finding them. In case others who have FD and CKD cats are interested, these are the ones I chose (they are all Weruva):

On the Cat Wok carbs 3.8% from calories, Phosphorous 163 mg/100 kcal, calories per 5.5oz 115
Paw Lickin Chicken carbs 3.3% phosphorous 196 calories 103
La Isla Bonita carbs 3.4% Phosphorous 166 calories 163
Fowl Ball carbs 4.1% phosphorous 180 calories 151
Chicken Frickazee carbs 2.0 phosphorous 174 calories 147

One thing I don't know if you knew about Weruva - good foods, but they are quite low in calories compared to other foods. For some kitties, that's OK. Trix really like Paw Licken' Chicken, but she couldn't eat enough of it to get the right amount of calories.

Settle-into-normal poop vines for Allen...nice greens for Boomer!

Oh, Judy, thank u so much for this list !!!!! Trying to balance carbs and phos can be challenging for certain. My spare bedroom looks like a PetsMart with all the various foods I am and have tried. I did also get Steak Frites ...know anything about it ???

Glad you found the fuds! The On the Cat Wok and Paw Lickin Chicken are quite low calorie, so you may need to feed two cans a day. I like the Weruva Truluxe Glam N Punk at 232 calories in the large can was higher calorie than the rest, and low carb/low phosphorus. With a bonus of being mostly lamb and duck so good for protein limited diets, though it does have a bit of tuna in it.

I think I avoided the Steak Frites because I was trying to stay under 5% carbs but it's only 5.5% carbs, 132 calories, 118 phosphorous. And you're welcome! I have a cupboard full of foods I've bought then investigated once I'm home with them and found they were not appropriate. Or Boomer didn't like them.

I was very relieved to find the food! Question.....with Boomer being about 15.5 lbs (slightly overweight) and Allen being 13.5 lbs(slightly underweight) do you have an idea how many calories I should be feeding?

Judy, that is what I discovered about the Steak Frites (after ordering off Amazon). I'm really trying to stay below 5 carbs as well. Studying on making my own and planning on posting a thread about it soon. This hunting down cans of food is wearing me out !!! I know I will get expert direction on the homemade food as well. Again, thanks so much for info. I'd be a mess if not for this Board with its wealth of info and experience :):cat:

Thanks Amy; yes Wendy told me to watch the calories which is why I decided that it would be a good food for Boomer because he is a bit overweight again.

Neither of my cats liked the Steak Frites.

Do you have an idea what the ideal weight is for your cats? Has your vet given you any suggestions on that? Dr. Lisa has the following formula on her website.
Required calories per day = [13.6 X optimal lean body weight in pounds] + 70
But that's just a starting guideline. The number of calories needed per cat will vary depending on their activity level, metabolism, etc. Your best friend is a scale. Weigh at least once a week and decide if they need more or less based on their progress.

Rover would only lick the sauce of the Steak Frites (even though he felt it was his duty to share in a good steak at the table with us). I thought for the price, it had more than its fair share of potato chunks, leading me to think it was higher carb than listed. Of course, it could be that the carb count excludes the potato chunks that most cats would not touch anyway. I've 2 cans still sitting in the cupboard. Thought I'd treat the next feral to a gourmet meal.

I think Boomer should be around 15 lbs or just slightly less and Allen around 14 lbs.
So for Boomer it would be around 270 calories and Allen around 260
Thanks Wendy!

That was my only issue with them also, Bubba loved them but a 17 lb cat would require a lot of cans a day and that would break the bank.

My guys love the Meow Luau from Weruva too Judy... 3.1% carbs 167 phos and has the pumpkin to help with the pooping for Savvy and Benson... not great for calories but i try to give a few different throughout the day so in the end they get their calories... positive thoughts for Allen's results... and would love to see some more greens there Boomer... hope you get to sleep without being serenaded tonight :bighug::bighug:

Trying to find low carb/low phos has been a nightmare. I am trying to stay away from seafood/fish on a regular bases (I try and save those for an emergency need - like a panc flare).

Here is what I am feeding Gizmo:
Wellness Core Beef, Venison & Lamb - Cal from Protein: 34, Cal from fat: 61, Cal from carbs: 5, Phos % from dry matter: 85%
Wellness Healthy Indulgence Turkey & Duck - Cal from Protein: 37, Cal from fat: 54, Cal from carbs: 9, Phos % from dry matter: 86% *probably too high for you*
and the Cats in the Kitchen Fowl Ball

Gizmo really likes the Wellness Core Beef, Venison & Lamb.

I am not sure on the calorie intake - but I know Gizmo is gaining weight. He is currently eating 8.75-9oz/ 24 hour period.

These are from this list:

Boomer doesn't seem to like beef (although he certainly used to like pieces of beef off our plates) or duck. I'm not sure I tried lamb. He definitely likes turkey and chicken.

Hi Judy,
I'm glad you found some fuds to try on the boys and that they actually like them. :cat: :cat:
More poop vines for Allen are on the way. Have you tried a little plain Greek yogurt with active cultures?

Yo Deputy Boomer, Nice to see you in the lagoon for a while today.

American pounds or metric pounds? If I remember correctly, the calorie formula is for American pounds.... not that it makes a huge difference, but I'll never forget the first time I stepped on a scale in the US and just about passed out when I saw the number.:rolleyes:

I still measure weight in pounds although I should be using kilograms. Is that what you're referring to?
