Just did a BG test 4 hrs after his meal and shot...
Are you ready...
291!!!!!!
I know that's still very high, but this is his first time in the 2's! I can't believe we're yellow!!!
Thank you all for ALL the advice! Glad I kept him at 1.5u I was starting to lose hope always being in 4's and 5's.
So now back to the worry part..Lol Do you think I should get up through the night to test? Is he at risk of running low?
I can't thank you all enough. I was going to bed sick to my stomach everynight. To have something positive happen brings me to tears. Your all amazing people, thank you for always being there!
Oh and btw I cancelled today's vet appointment. He was there twice last week and I see no reason to take him, stress him out, and get him poked again. He's been through so much. I rescheduled in a week.

I'd try to get at least 1 more test in tonight.....you never know when the downward motion can really start going

With Vetsulin, it's probably not going to happen, but better to be safe

If you'll wake up to an alarm, I'd try to get a +6 or +7 but since Vetsulin usually wears off earlier than the longer acting insulins, I expect he'll be fine

And WOO HOO on the yellow!!...soon you'll be wishing for blue!!

That yellow definitely is a welcome sight! Good job getting the spreadsheet going, too. Try to always get a preshot reading so you can see how far the drop is. Keep with the 1.5 for another day or two and let's see what happens. We may need to bump it up to 2, but let's give it a little more time so her body gets used to being in these better numbers to avoid a bounce. You're doing good.

Now that your testing at home, no reason for weekly visits unless there's a specific concern. What was the appoint for? Just a bg test? A single test at the vet is not reliable since the number tends to be elevated from stress.

Congratulations on your first yellow number! I would recommend you get a pre-shot test before every shot and then test around +1.5 to +3 to see how fast BG is dropping. Many cats tend to go lower at night so snagging a test early in the cycle will tell you how quickly Big Kitty is dropping and then you can decide if you need to do any more testing during the cycle especially at night. If nothing else, checking at night before bed will give you peace of mind and allow you to get a good worry free sleep.

Hurray! So nice to cross that threshold into the 200s! :)

Yes I know that I have to get a test before shooting. I felt bad because his little ears are bruised from all my poking. But I have it down pat now. I was really struggling to get blood poking like 5+ times. But now he has Neosporin on them and I will really get on the testing. I figured out his ears HAVE to be warm. Thank you all for the kind words!
And yes the vet visit was just a blood test and to meet the new vet. I decided to switch because my other vet told me to NEVER test at home. They wanted me to bring him in every two weeks for the rest of his life and charge me $55 for an office visit Everytime + cost of the test. No way! Ripping me off for sure!!!

Omg twice a month for years? Yeah no. Lol. That's just freaking crazy.

Congratulations to you and Big Kitty getting into the yellows. I know just how you feel. Smoky was in the red and black numbers for a long time. He started to get yellows and blues and I was both excited and worried. I was not used to him having lower numbers even though I knew it was a very good thing.
