Just did a test 4 hours prior to shot and meal time and he's 498. No dry food in him at all today! Why is he running so high! I even increased his dose to 1 1/2 units. Maybe next shot I should give 2? I wish I could at least get him in the 200's! I'm worried something is going to happen with him always high!
 
You should keep with a new dose for at least three days before you can see what the effect is. stay with the 1.5 Any time to set up the spreadsheet yet? It's hard to advise on a dose without the info to look at.
 
It's better to keep the same dose for a few days as Janet stated above. Your kitty may bounce if his dose is raised too much too fast. His body may be used to the higher numbers and consider them normal. It takes time for a cats body to get to a point where lower numbers are considered a good thing.
Otherwise, if blood sugar suddenly drops too fast due to insulin dose the cats body may think it is in danger and start pumping extra glucose into their system. It's one reason why they " bounce".
Don't worry as much when he is higher as when he is too low.
 
Just did another test. 540! Makes me sick to my stomach. That's from a human meter too! Shot was one hour ago. Hopefully he will drop! Thanks I will let you know if I need help with the spreadsheet! I have a book I've been writing everything down so I can back date if possible.

Please remember that these numbers are not unusual for an unregulated cat. My cat was still hitting the 400's and 500's two months after diagnosed. I know you see these numbers and they are shocking, but they will come down.
 
Smoky had high numbers on both vetsulin and prozinc when he started on insulin. He was anywhere from 400's to over 600 a lot of the time. It took him a couple of months on the vetsulin for his BG's to level out. I switched him to prozinc later on because the vetsulin was causing his BG to drop very low. He would then bounce back into higher numbers and be stuck there. Your boy has only just started with the vetsulin and as Janet was saying it can take a few months for a cat to start seeing better numbers. Hang in there as it will get better.
