Yesterday/last night (PJ party): http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/...158-2-75-3-2-35-20m-41-4-39-5-55-6-65.171074/

That was a rough night. :nailbiting: Thank you to all that helped me through it! I'll name names later, but right now my brain is fried. :woot:
Low Blue AMPS, so we'll see what Taffy wants to do today. He was 108 @ +11, so he was headed up, not down, I feel.

I have to run out and get more test strips, as I am mighty low. But right now, I am going to try take a nap (and possibly a migraine pill) until +2 time.

Taffy tested/fed/shot (gave reducie to 1 unit), Baby Kitty fed, Outsiders fed...check, check, check!!! My pillow is calling me!! ;):cat::cat::cat:

Another rainy day, good napping weather!!! I hope all the kitties and beans are having a good day!!! Back in a few!!!
:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

+2 = 168

Not quite, I don't think...Taffy is at 1.0 and Uncle is at .1, as in just drops, right?
Oh yeah. Totally right. Those decimal points really make a difference!!!!!! Still, great progress for Taffy!!!
I am giving Uncle 3 drops of insulin now. Hope it holds, but I am prepared to take him right back up if it doesn't.
Ah, I can't remember now because my brain is still scrambled but someone here just gently reminded me of this: Fall in love with the results, not the dose.

Still, great progress for Taffy!!!
Yes!!! It is our lowest so far (except when starting). I am hopeful that we keep going.

3 drops!!! That sounds hard to measure. I hope I can do it if we get there!!!
Fall in love with the results, not the dose.
I know, I know...but the lovely results of remission would be more sleep!!! I never thought that sleep was so important to me until FD happened!!!
my brain is still scrambled
DId you get some sleep last night?

That saying has long been a common one with high dose cats. It's also true with the baby dose cats.;)

Ok, I'm going to test my skills and hopefully the experienced ones will weigh in.
Taffy could be headed into a bounce- time will tell
The +5 could be interpereted as roughly the same as +2 because of meter variance -time will tell
It could be New Dose Wonkiness -time will tell
I may be wrong about all 3 options though LOL
CATS!

Thanks for the input!!! You have more insight than me, lol. I am always feeling like I am doing a paint-by-numbers, but I lost the color key!!!
Put away the test kit, enjoy the rest of your pokie free day
Really!!???!!! YAY!!!

Also, input...I thought that Taff would have soft stools or diarrhea from all of the gravy and sugar last night, but instead he seems more constipated than ever. He tried to go #2 and just got little tiny poopies out. Sure wish that I could figure out how to help him with his pooping. All the usual does not seem to do it. Should I up his intake of Miralax??? Does it cause dehydration? Should I start giving him some subQs every few days??? Psyllium didn't help, he won't eat pumpkin or squash. How does constipation and blood sugar levels correlate? Is there info in the Main Health forum on this?

Have you ever visited http://www.felineconstipation.org/ ? Probaby more than you ever wanted to know. :p

Miralax is dose to effect. Add more if needed, less if stool get too loose. It does draw water so you should make sure Taffy's getting lots of extra water with his fuds. I wouldn't do SubQ's without running it by your vet first.

If kitty's are constipated, it can cause some irritation and result in higher BG's. If you want dramatic evidence, take a look at Junior's SS. He has megacolon and you can see when he gets constipated. And the resulting BG drops after an enema.

Wow, what a night you had last night! Nice work everyone!
I wanted to comment on an exchange posted in yesterday's thread because it has to do with a common misconception popping up all too often these days.

@Gill & George
@Tricia Cinco(GA) & Harvey
If he won't eat, perhaps you could give him 20 min and recheck BG, just to be sure he is staying up.

It's getting later in the cycle so hopefully you have that on your side, and am i right in thinking that you've noted that it takes him a little longer than the average cat to respond to carbs?

If he eats the kibbles, as they are dry, it may take a while for him to respond, so still check in 20.
Actually, Gill, Jill informed me not long ago that dry does not take any longer to affect BGs than canned. It does, however, stay in the system longer.
I know I remember, I just don't think I necessarily agree, my reasoning being that when George has sicked up on a very rare occasion, after about an hour or two of eating his kibble breakfast, the lumps were still pretty solid, where as, when he has done that after eating wet the sick is not recognisable as food. To me, rightly or wrongly that suggests the food is taking longer to digest and therefore longer to absorb.
I also think of it in terms of sport nutrition, a dry energy bar will sustain you longer than an energy drink, but the energy drink will boost your BG much quicker than the bar.
That's just my opinion though, maybe my logic isn't sound.
Just a quick note about using HC kibble to bring BG numbers up during a low number event...

We used to feed HC kibble to bring BG numbers up from 1996 til around the end of 2006 - beginning of 2007. We'd generally see a rise in numbers within 20 - 30 minutes... much the same as what you see when feeding canned HC. It was common practice back then. It wasn't until the German TR Protocol was widely accepted on the FDMB in early 2007 that we began to use canned HC to bring up numbers because the canned HC appeared to clear kitty's system faster than kibble... a definite advantage when practicing TR.

Feeding canned HC is preferable, but when a kitty won't eat when you need them to eat OR if they vomit from the richness of HC or the HC gravy... many kitties will voluntarily eat a small amount of kibble which will cause their numbers to rise as quickly as feeding canned HC and/or will often settle their stomach down.

Notice to this day, dry kibble remains in the How to Treat Hypos instructions as well as in jojo's Hypo Tool Box...

Thank you for that clarification, Jill. So, then, I did the correct thing...Taffy was still struggling to bring numbers up and had had his fill of wet foods with gravy. I knew that he would likely eat some kibble bcuz he loves it so much. I gave him just 4 small kibble pieces, 25% carb.

You did a great job managing numbers!
Feeding canned HC is always preferable because the effects don't last as long, but if kitty refuses, kibble or even HC (dry) treats will work as well. It may just take a bit longer for the carbs to clear the system.

Went to bed after I signed off from your thread but Uncle woke me up at 3:00am AND 5:00am for food. Then I overslept a bit for his morning AMPS.
I don't see this new dose doing much, so I will probably get sleep tonight as long as Uncle doesn't wake me again. I gotta stay up till midnight to get his +2 at least

In my opinion, that trumps everything, even if it would have taken a little longer (which it wouldn't have), the fact that you knew he would eat it was key.
Exactly.
Alex loved white cheddar Cheeze-its and Cheetos. Couldn't tell you how many times I'd use them to get her interested in food again! It worked almost every time! It's all part of "knowing your cat".
